RetailIamAn overnight stocket at Wal-Mart. I've seen some stuff. And things. AMA!

Dec 30th 2014 by 0vernight • 9 Questions • 85 Points

Short story is I got hired a few months ago, got offered the overnight stocking shift from 10pm to 7am, and been doing it since.

If you think Wal-Mart is bad in the day, you have no idea.

Any questions about in general working there is cool, too.

No names, or store numbers pls.

EDIT: Well it's almost 2pm which is more like 2am for me and I work tonight, if theres a lot of questions when I wake up i'll keep answering them through tonight. I'll probably figure out what gold is by the time im back.

Q:

Are there any creepers who just walk around the store all night long?

A:

Theres this guy that's been living in the store for like two weeks now and I swear to god no one is talking about it. I see him every single night, he's just walking around from one end to the other pretending he's looking at stuff.

At first I thought he was AP for the store, but there's no way he has that kind of hours. My brother works there too, and I drop him off in the afternoon and i'll go in and see him there. Not a word from management.

I'm going to talk to him one of these days.

Q:

What's the funniest thing you've seen while working at Wal-Mart?

A:

This woman brought her two little brats into the store, they were loud and running up and down the grocery aisles. I was dreading the sound of them coming closer, hearing them zip up and down the aisles. 4. 6. 8. I knew it was a matter of time, I was only in aisle 18. 10. 12. Screaming, the mother no where to be heard. 14. 16. They were almost here.

The kid turned to get to my aisle, and ran face first into a support pole that had a spill clean up station on it. Apparently, he had been grabbing stuff from the shelves on the aisles and throwing them as he went. He sat on the floor and cried until his mom came and got him, I was just kind of moving to the opposite end pretending I was zoning while laughing my ass off.

Q:

What happens at night that would not happen during the day? Can you share a story to curl our toes?

A:

People really don't care about appearance. A woman walked in last week wearing a long shirt and nothing else.

We also had a guy shit in the dressing room about two months ago. Walked out with stained pants and told the woman "sorry" before leaving. That was during the day shift, though. Sometimes they get the fun stuff.

Q:

Weirdest looking person youve seen at Wal-Mart?

A:

FUCKING TODAY

I swear to god it was pretty much this.

He was balding but with long hair, coke bottle glasses, and it looked like he was pudding sitting on the scooter. He was wearing a sleeveless shirt that looked like it had been on for a few weeks, and shorts that rode up to the top of his thighs. Ugh, I'm still shivering.

Q:

Have you ever seen a guy use a pallet jack as a giant, steerable skateboard?

Have you ever thrown a handful of dry bulk pinto beans in front of this guy while he was speeding down an aisle?

A:
  1. Yes, doesn't work out for the bigger guys.

  2. One day. One day.

Q:

Worst thing you have found while stocking?

A:

A used condom stuffed inside a water bottle, right outside of the "family bathroom."

Q:

I'm actually really impressed how they put it inside a bottle so no one had to pick up the used condom, bottle free! Lol.

A:

I guess it was one of the nicer things they could've done.

EDIT: GOLD? Thank you, kind redditor, I will use this to do whatever gold does because I have no idea what it is.

Q:

Who would win in a fight, He-man or Lion-O?

A:

He-Man. Lion-O doesn't have this to his name.

Q:

At my former store, it was roughly 2-3 pallets a night per stocker. Luckily our store wasn't a supercenter.

A:

Because we need to stock the shelves at some point, and it's the best time at night. We have to throw overstock on the ground so it can be audited.

Our lunch varies but is usually around 2-3am, so theres always going to be employees who would rather sit in their car.
