AcademicHi, I'm Tim Wu, media guru and father of net neutrality, and author of The Attention Merchants. Ask me anything, Reddit!

CATFIGHT is a brutally hilarious story about two bitter rivals pursuing a grudge match that spans a lifetime. Struggling outsider artist Ashley Miller (Anne Heche) and wealthy housewife Veronica Salt (Sandra Oh) were close in college, but have not seen each other since. When they find themselves attending the same glitzy birthday party, verbal barbs lead to fisticuffs and an all-out brawl that will keep these two locked in combat for years to come.

EDIT: Thank you so much for tuning in!!

Q:

Do you think net neutrality can be reinstated if it's lost or will it be near impossible to reinstate?

Alicia: Star in Grey's Anatomy

Sandra: Oh my -

Anne: Star in Grey's Anatomy and then leave it to go be in Catfight

Sandra: [shakes her head, flips through magazine] No comment

Q:

Do people actually refer to themselves as "guru"?

would you rather fight one horse sized cat or 100 cat sized horses?

Q:

I didn't write that!

A:

Onur (director): Depends on what's on the line. Depends what we're fighting for.

Q:

Would you consider running for office again? I supported your run for lieutenant governor.

A:

sandra, what was your reaction when you read the catfight script?

Q:

Never say never. I do have 2 young children right now, which is a limiting factor in near term. Political life is tough on children

A:

Sandra: I was immediately intrigued by Page 2. Actually even the bottom of Page 1. I'm trying to remember the first scene at the breakfast table. Immediately, I got the tone and by the end of Act I, at the first encounter that Veronica and Ashley have, I was totally hooked.

Q:

Hello Mr. Wu, thank you for the AMA!

The way we're going, what do you think the future holds? Do you think there'll come a saturation point when enough will be enough and anything that's manipulated or exploited for commercial reasons will not be tolerated, or consumed in the least?

A:

Did either of you take any real shots to face while filming Catfight - either by accident or on purpose?

Q:

One would hope. I am dying to see a new business model succeed. Well, Netflix has succeeded. So I want to see more like that

A:

Onur (director): Yeah the actresses beat me up the whole time.

Q:

Your books so far have been a kind of examination of an entire industry through the history of a particular company. In Master Switch, it was telecommunications through Bell, and Attention Merchants was journalism through the New York Times.

What are some other companies that you consider fascinating enough that they could be the basis of a history for their industry?

A:

Those punches look real! Did you do your own fight scenes?

A:

Anne: Yes we did. 95%.

Sandra: Yeah I'd say 95% of what they ended up using in the film was me and Anne.

Anne: Oh yeah it was - we had stunt doubles and we watched them. They helped us tremendously with the choreography.

Sandra: And they were in there too.

Anne: They were incredibly helpful. They work very fast. They are used to movies with budget that take 10 days to shoot and we had 1 day. I think we could only get it because our crew was so great with helping us sell the choreography quickly and well.

Q:

Ha! Fair enough. It's true I haven't finished it. Thanks for your thoughts.

A:

What would you do if you couldn't act?

A:

Sandra:

Anne: I'd schmact. Oh no that IS what I do.

Alicia: I would want to be a nutritionist.

Sandra: You would be excellent! You're basically a nutritionist now. You ARE. Am I going to be shameless because you have your line...what is it called?

Alicia: Mykind Organics.

Anne: The sprays are amazing.

Anne: I would love to be a teacher. I like being a mom a lot. That or President. I think BOTH people want me to do. Almost the same.

Alicia: A chef would be fun too.

Anne: I'd want to be a Picass-ette. One of the people who get painted all over.

Sandra: Wow these guys have a lot of other interests - I appreciate that.

Anne: Sandra you have not answered.

Sandra: I want a little clarification. Is this if you couldn't act now, like if we started our life from now...

Alicia: Take it that way yeah.

Sandra; I would say if I had been exposed to Pina Bausch some time in my youth I would have never become an actor. I would have continued dancing.

Anne/Alicia: [Sigh together]

Anne: That's incredible.
