My short bio: Austin Songer is running for Congress because he believes in a new vision of representation for the 6th Congressional District of Illinois. He's running to give the people of the 6th District a real choice in 2018.

My Proof: https://www.facebook.com/events/677507285772231/

A:

Did you ever get to go into the park after hours with friends or any benefits like that?

Q:

Hi Austin I am a resident in IL-6 and have seen your posts on some of the facebook groups. What do you have to offer for me for me to actually vote for you in March and what makes you the strongest candidate announced so far to beat Peter Roskam in 2018?

A:

Glad you found us! If you like, you can sign up for a newsletter here to stay informed :)

Q:

The benefits were pretty great, we got discounts on food and merchandise in the park and on citywalk. We also got a page (front and back) filled with discounts to many different places and things, ranging from buss passes, movie tickets, sixflags and disney tickets. We never got to go after hours to the park to enjoy rides, mainly because all the rides close at the same time so there isn't anyone to operate them. However, when we got closing shifts, all the employees would stay to clean the ride for about an hour after closing. So a lot of the time there would be a group of about 5-7 people walking through the empty ass park at midnight on our way to the changing room.

A:

(1) First and foremost, I will advocate, represent, listen to the citizens of the 6th district.

(2) I'm pro-choice, I'm for single-payer healthcare system.

(3) I will serve the 6th district and I will not vote along party lines like Peter Roskam.

(4) I have the ability to motivate the millennials to come out and vote.

Q:

Is it in the frakkin' ship? It sounds like it's in the frakkin' ship!!!

A:

Why did you want to do an AMA?

Q:

So the first three items are ones that most of your primary contenders will probably share. The last point about getting millennials out to vote is interesting though. Can you expand on this? You're clearly one of the younger candidates so I am curious what your strategy is for younger voter turnout. Thanks!

A:

Yes, it's in the frakkin' ship

Q:

I feel like I have plenty of stories from working at the park and a lot of information that could be useful to people. I was there for around a year and a half and I definitely got to see all the ins and outs of the industry.

A:

Millennials want someone that are looking out for them. So as a millennial I know the issues that they care the most about.

(1) Equality For Everyone (Keeping Religion Out Of Peoples Lives, Unless They Want Religion Part Of Their Lives) (2) Millennials want a candidate that is committed to their community. (3) Millennials want a candidate that wants greater transparency at the local, state, and federal level. (4) Millennials want a candidate that will actually listen to them and that's what missing from current representatives and other candidates that are not a millennial. (5) Over the years the parties have tried to get the younger generation to come out and vote, but failed, because they had candidates that didn't relate to that generation so then they decide not to vote. (6) Millennials are tired of seeing the same "old white guy/girl" in office. (7) I believe in term-limits for congressman/congresswoman. (8) I believe in single-payer healthcare

Q:

Hello! And thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to do an AMA. What type of game will this end up being? And what pushed you to pursue development of this one instead of something else.

A:

Why is 50 shades of grey your favorite movie?

Q:

He's for single-payer healthcare system, so probably not.

A:

Hi. It's a strategy game where you take command of Colonial fleet during the early years of the first Cylon War, just after the Cylon rebellion. As well as the high level strategy aspects, there is a big focus on ship to ship battles.

We developed it because we love BSG. We had a few options before this project started, and it was a no-brainer when the opportunity came up.

Q:

The day we got hired, they asked us to choose a favorite movie. The hiring staff had made a joke about "you can put 50 shades down and we'll see if you can get it". It was meant as a joke but I decided to pick it to see if it'd fly, and it did. It also served as a conversation starter with guests when the ride would go down. Added benefit being that I was the only person (at least at the time) with that movie on my tag, so it made me just a little unique.

A:

I will take in a few and post it.

Q:

Been looking forward to this game since May, can't wait.

Half serious question: Why couldn't I be a beta tester?

Serious question: Will retreat or reinforces by FTL be possible? And if so, can FTL be knocked out?

A:

Can I speak to Babs?

Q:

Favorite pizza topping?

A:

Half serious answer : bad luck :) (though the beta isn't over yet)

Serious answer, we don't have that at present, but it's been raised during the beta, so we are looking into it.

Q:

No, and don't ask for Babs either.

A:

I like deep dish cheese pizza.

Q:

Are you guys planning modding support for the game? I'm sure there'd be a very avid fanbase eager to tackle it!

A:

What is your least favorite ride?

Q:

Would you say you have an eye for detail?

A:

No doubt about the avid fanbase, but unfortuneatly we don't have support for mods. We do have 21 officially approved ship types in the game, and with the possibility of more in future DLC.

Q:

Despicable me. It's a shitty version of the Simpson's ride. There isn't nearly enough immersion when you get in the RV, it's not a very long ride, and the plot to the ride is pretty nonsensical.

A:

Yes. The military taught me to be as throughout as possible when reviewing items.

Q:

How long will a typical battle last? Because when you showed it in real time (no turns replay), the replay of the fight was over in seconds. This kind of defeats the feeling of these all powerful capital ships slugging it out dont you think? We saw a jupiter class hold off 3 (advanced) basestars for 10 minutes in the series.

A:

Went to the Simpsons ride a couple of years ago. I remember it was the ride we had to wait the longest to get into. Do you think that ride is overrated? I personally did.

Q:

What are your thoughts on the electoral college and the senate?

A:

It varies a lot depending on the makeup of the fleet and the skill of the player. We are still balancing, so the video might not reflect what gets released. In terms of making a good game, the focus for the ideal length of a battle includes the time to make moves, more than just the length of the replay. That said, I've certainly had replays last a few minutes in recent times.

Q:

I worked at the ride for a good while and I got to hear the audio so many times that I know it by heart. So to me, the ride is overrated, however, comparatively, I believe it's one of the best rides in the park. Your wait time depends on what time of year you went, and how well staffed they were. In the summer, the ride breaks down because of heat, or we have to shut it down to avoid overheating/fires. We drop one dome, and what was a loading capacity of roughly 360 people every 5 minutes drops by half.

A:

Electoral College is a outdated system and should be replaced with the popular vote.

Q:

Will you bring back Muffit?

A:

Hi. I'm going there this summer. Do you have any park tips? Or secrets about universal that would be cool to know?

Q:

How would you address the poor way Illinois spends money on disability services? For instance, Illinois spends 2.72/1000 of personal income on services for the developmentally delayed. Minnesota spends $6.95 per $1000, yet Illinois spends a greater proportion on housing such people in institutions instead of smaller group housing in communities like MN does. Illinois ranks nearly last in all the states on keeping disabled people segregated and not part of the community.

Social services haven't been paid since January, and there are no hopes for the people stuck in the institutions as long as people's jobs and entire small town economies are based on these institutions. https://psmag.com/social-justice/i-will-no-longer-raise-my-son-in-illinois

A:

Er, no. Sorry. Our game is based on '03 series, so Muffit isn't a thing. Poor Muffit.

Q:

Get there early, make sure you watch the Waterworld show and go along on the studio tour. Those are the most iconic. The rides that I really recommend you check out are Forbidden Journey (Harry Potter ride) and Simpson's ride. The only rollercoaster is The Mummy. The busiest time and longest lines are from 10-3pm. If you get there at opening, you can hit almost every ride without waiting in any lines. As the day gets late, the lines die down almost completely. The shows end before any of the rides close, so do those first.

I can't think of any secrets.

A:

(1) We can restore faith by coming together (Example: The Resistance) and fighting for a common goal.

(2) I want to be one that motivates the ones that has lost faith in democracy. I will advocate, represent, and listen to all residents of Illinois 6th Congressional District.

Q:

I had a question. Will the Valkyrie Type Battlestar from the series be in the game? (Playable, buildable, researchable in the story line and one on one?)

A:

I went there recently and I highly recommend downloading the app. Makes it easier to navigate around the park and plan by looking at rides wait times.

Q:

[deleted]

A:

Not in the initial game, no. We've got the well known "core" ships, like the Galactica and Vipers, etc, and a number of new ships made specifically for the game. At the time the game is set, the Colonial fleet is still largely being put together from the fleets of the various colonies, and we've made designs to reflect that.

Q:

I was never a personal fan of the app but that's because it's not the most accurate thing. All wait time changes go as follow: Ride op sees line gets long Ride op calls his ride's dispatch office and tells them Dispatch office calls central command to let them know CC has to manually update the wait times both at the ride Queues and on the App.

Then again i haven't been to the Park as a guest in 6ish months.

A:

No. Trump should be impeached if Robert Mueller Special Committee finds enough evidence. Donald Trump shouldn't even be President, because Hillary had 3 million more votes, but sadly our democracy doesn't believe in the popular vote.

Q:

Will you guys do a console beta?

A:

How many attractions did you get to see "with the lights on?" Which ones were less impressive? Which ones were more impressive?

Q:

That's tough to set up logistically, so probably not, sorry

A:

The only ride that I got to get a full tour of, lights on and everything was The Simpsons ride. When you get hired as a ride Op, you get a full tour of your attraction, lights on and all. It's for safety reasons so you know how to evacuate guests. It takes a lot of safety clearance to be allowed to get a "track walk" of any ride if you aren't originally from it. I did get to see the inside of the Mummy when it got stuck once. And Jurassic Park when the water was getting drained. The Mummy was pretty cool as you get to see how the track twists and turns inside a sound stage. It all feels so close and cramped. I'd say that the Simpsons was the coolest of all. There are two MASSIVE domes with four stories. Two above and one below ground for seating, and one more at the base of the domes for maintenance.

Q:

near and at release of the game will you be showing off more trailers or live game play footage. possibly even going as far as asking youtube channels to play the game? ex: getting achivement hunter to do a lets play or live stream.

A:

So do you hear anything where Super Nintendo World is gonna be? How it it like working there though? With the Studio Tour and all, do you have access behind the actual soundstages and production with directors and actors and all? BTW, Why did Harry Potter closed at HHN?

Q:

Most definitely, though the specifics of that are with the marketing people. You'll definitely see more of the game before it gets released

A:

Some people say that it will be taking over the Mummy sound stage, some say that it will get it's own sound stage next to transformers, no one really knows. I worked as a ride op at the Simpsons so no, I did not get access to areas where things were being filmed. I never had any interactions with directors or actors while they were filming. The sound stages and production areas are really secluded to anyone who isn't supposed to be back there. However, during horror nights, I worked route 666, and to traverse that long stretch land quickly, without having to bump into guests, we would go behind and around sound stages. There's a fence that blocks the area where Exorcist was last year and where the sound stages are, I got to go back there and use it as a detour. WWoHP closes during HHN because HHN is a massive operation. The amount of people working the event is almost the same as during day ops, just more scare actors and less ride ops. WWoHP is also a very big place, it can hold up to 12k people (don't quote me on that) and there is a limit to how many people we are allowed to have in the park during HHN. The average night will have around 22-24k people max. Whereas day operations we can hit over 40k. Fire marshal will only approve in the area of 27 thousand people at MAX. So if WW stays open, then the small amount of people will be there instead of at the mazes. I know that last yea it was opened for an hour or two towards the end of the event's run. Short answer:safety concern/too many people to staff.

I liked working at Universal, but it got in the way of school so I quit in February but am working there again this HHN as a scare actor. Nice environment and really, really nice people.

Q:

If you lose a Battlestar in battle, is it gone for good, or does it end up in the shipyard?

A:

What's the weirdest thing you have ever seen?

Q:

It's gone for good! You can build news ones, however they are pretty expensive to construct, so I wouldn't recommend using them for ramming basestars :)

A:

Not exactly weird because of the circumstances, but during HHN I had a guy dressed as Ali-G. Not only was he in full costume, but we was in full character.

Q:

Will the games soundtrack be released? i heard bagpipes and drums during one of the live streams and immediately fell in love so if not you guys should definitely consider it.

A:

Is there any creepy story you saw in the park ?

Q:

Honestly don't know yet. There are a number of things we'd need to work out with various parties for this to happen. But I agree, it's very good :) (and yes, I know, I'm biased)

A:

There's the story of Jennifer from the Simpson's ride. Worker died on the third floor of one of the domes and her spirit roams the halls. Other than that, no.

Q:

[removed]

A:

How did she die?

Q:

I'd definitely like to think it was the latter! I think the proposal we put forward made it pretty clear that we loved the franchise, were only interested in making a "good" game (i.e. not a cash-in), and would treat it with respect, so I think that definitely helped.

A:

She fell into the Hydraulic pit that lifts the ride vehicle up....or something, I don't remember which story it is.

Q:

How much will the 3rd degree play in the game? Space combat frequently plays out in 2d, and I love it when space/flight games take full advantage of height.

A:

Fuck... that sounds terrible.

Q:

We've tried to strike a balance between making 3D useful and usable, without being too confusing and hard to control and use.

All ships have armour in 6 areas, left/right (port/starboard), front/back, top and bottom. So if say your port armour is near depleted, you can use "height" to expose the bottom or top of the ship if required.

Also, a turrets firing arc depends on the position of the weapon on the ships. So a port weapon has about a 90 degree arc, whereas a dorsal (top) weapon has 360 degrees arc, but can't fire at a target "below" the ship.

A:

It's probably bullshit. There was a worker who fell into the same pit about a year before I got hired and he only broke a leg. The only person who I know for a fact that died in the park was the suicider. Guy ran in with a gun after being told to stop by security, he ran all the way to Despicable Me (behind the attraction) and shot himself in the head. At least that's the way I've been told about the events but it was definitely televised.

Q:

Please tell me the game feels authentic?

A:

The game feels authentic.

Seriously, that's one of our core goals for the game, which we established right at the start of the project.

Q:

I already asked a question, but would like to ask another.

Will this game be a buy once / own forever type game, free-to-play with options to buy stuff, or some other sales model?

A:

Buy once. We are a bit old-fashioned like that :)
