I have a cochlear implant on my right ear, and I only have low tones in my left. I primarily play bass clarinet. Give me your questions!

Q:

Have you ever put a metal rod attached to a piano in your mouth so you could hear the music through your bones?

A:

No. However, I did play cello for one year, and I would often place my ear against a tuning peg to hear it that way.

Q:

evelyn glennie fan?

A:

Abso-fucking-lutely. Her Sesame Street segment was cute

Q:

how old are you?

A:

18 ::no shame::

Q:

Are you sometimes wondering when you release a fart in public whether it was a silent or loud one?

A:

It depends on the frequency of my butt cheek vibrations.

Q:

Oh never mind, I thought you were a music producer. :,) Goodluck with life :)

A:

When traveling and using EarPods, I do listen to electronic music, mainly for the bass. I can’t hear high pitches with EarPods do to it not being connected to my cochlear implant. However, I have just enough low tones left over in my left ear that I can listen to that. I am not a fan of hip hop, however, due to spoken and sang words being difficult to hear.

Q:

Will it be wrong to ask your favourite Electronic music producer?

A:

I like The Crystal Method, personally.

Q:

What is your favorite type of music?

A:

Movie soundtracks, especially John Williams. I love the blend of brass and percussion.

Q:

Do you know ASL?

A:

A little bit. I took an online class, but I failed it. Basically, RIP me.

Q:

Do you always tell the conductor/director before rehearsals start? Is there anything they can do to help you?

A:

My directors know that I am deaf. If I do not understand what they told me to do, they will gladly repeat themselves or show me.

Q:

Do you ever feel you would be worse off if you weren't deaf? Do you feel you still would have gotten into music?

A:

That’s all “what if” questions. So, I am not sure to be honest. Obviously I would like to think I would still be a musician, but can’t say for sure.

Q:

favorite piece to play and why?

A:

Mars from Holst’s The Plants! Awesome percussion and brass, repetitive rhythms, with interesting Melody’s throughout.
