IamA Price is Right Car Winner and Showcase Showdown loser AMA!

Jan 14th 2018 by marky_mark301 • 37 Questions • 881 Points

Hey Reddit,

I’m Mike and I’m best known for a few books (https://www.amazon.com/Michael-Matthews/e/B006XNAP6C/), my website Muscle for Life (https://www.muscleforlife.com), and my supplement company Legion Athletics (https://legionathletics.com).

I’m super excited to be here, so AMA! I’ll field questions on anything: diet, exercise, supplementation, business, marketing, velociraptors, Juggalos, whatever floats your boat.

Proof: https://imgur.com/a/RL5jt

EDIT #1: Hey everybody! I forgot to post how long I'll be doing this, soooo...I'll be going until 4 PM ET (another 30 minutes).

EDIT #2: That's a wrap! Thanks so much for stopping by and asking me questions. :) I hope you enjoyed it!

Oh and if you liked what I had to say, then you'll definitely like my articles over at www.muscleforlife.com and www.legionathletics.com/blog.

Q:

How heavy is the wheel?

A:

How many false, unverified, or unverifiable leads did you have to wade through before putting this together?

Q:

You have a book called Bigger Leaner Stronger, Thinner Leaner Stronger, and The Shredded Chef. Would you consider doing a book called Thinner Leaner Shredder, complete with a pic of Shredder (from TMNT) on the cover? The whole book can be about losing weight "The Shredder Way", which involves lots of cardio through intense stabbing and slicing.

Edit: added some stuff.

A:

What's your favorite use of any of your songs on television or in a movie?

Q:

Hi. I'm a breast cancer survivor currently in the process of my reconstruction (DCIS, bilateral mastectomy). I wanted to ask if you have had genetic testing?

It's very rare to have breast cancer so young and and as a male. It is possible to have a genetic condition even if cancer is not in your family history. For example, I am suspected to be the first in my family to have my genetic condition.

I would strongly suggest that you push for genetic testing. If you have a condition it could save your life to know what to look for.

Check out this site for more info. http://www.hereditarycancer.org/

Edit:. Spelling.

A:

Does it feel weird that you get to go on TV and be famous for cooking with cannabis while other people are still getting locked up for it?

Q:

What made you choose Brahm's Violin Concerto in There Will Be Blood?

A:

How many false, unverified, or unverifiable leads did you have to wade through before putting this together?

A:

surprisingly heavy

Q:

Many! There were other elements of the story that we had to drop because we didn't have sufficient confirmation.

A:

Fucking brilliant. Email me. Let's write together.

Q:

Guardians of the Galaxy, Good Burger

A:

I had genetic testing done after my mastectomy. The oncologist told me it came back with nothing.

Q:

Totally, it really blows. There is almost nothing I can do for those individual people other than change the laws to help them get out and have a shot at a decent life again by making sure minorities are not only represented, but carved out opportunities for those that were incarcerated in this industry.

My heart breaks for them, but what can I do other than push forward and get this yuppies to change the law in favor of the people?

Excellent question, thank you so much for asking.

For those that are curious who I trust and have worked with: http://www.drugpolicy.org Cat Packer is one of the awesome people that ran it. Here is when I had her and Ophelia Chong on my show to talk about the policy reform and release of incarcerations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xDFCjXTE18&index=6&list=PLsRq_2H1A2tE4QmYEMRn4PilaJtVuZ6Mn

A:

It's fucking rad! And sounds great played loud.

Q:

A:

Fucking brilliant. Email me. Let's write together.

Q:

Awesome! How’s the car?

A:

Many if these accounts are new. How much did you pay for the upvotes?

Q:

Thank you for your amazing contribution to music.

How did the George Clinton Family Series albums come about? Some of my favorite work you've done is on those records.

A:

What were you tested for? Make sure it was a full panel not just BRAC, and CHEK. (There are allot of genetic conditions out there that can increase your risk of cancer that aren't always in the panels. If you did Myraid you should be covered though.) Assuming it was a full panel I'm glad to hear you are clean.

Best of luck with your recovery. Fuck cancer.

Q:

I think he means that he wants to hire people that care about food, are able to provide excellent service, technique, and that have a passion for cannabis. If they meet that criteria, having prior issues with arrests for marijuana possession would not preclude them from employment. Merit based but not contingent on past legal issues.

A:

What made you switch between anamorphic lenses on your earlier films, and the spherical lenses on the later films?

Q:

Is there any evidence that Russian money went to the NRA to help trump?

If so, what is that evidence?

A:

Many if these accounts are new. How much did you pay for the upvotes?

Q:

haven't picked it up yet, getting the money together for taxes and ill be picking it up and promptly selling it

A:

WHY SO CYNICAL MY FRIEND!?

Emailed a list of mine with over 200,000 people to notify them of this.

Q:

They were leftover tunes from the sessions from Flash Light, We Want the Funk, and all the other hits that were not used on the albums back then. And I got a lot more!

A:

I'm not entirely sure to be honest. Thank you for bringing it up though, I go back to the doctor Monday and I'll ask him again just to be sure we checked everything. Good luck with the reconstruction! Fuck cancer!

Q:

this

A:

Nerd Questions! My Favorite! Well, the first time we shot spherical was on the Master...it seemed like a good fit, evoking the old 50s films like Vertigo and North By Northwest...large format films but in a boxy frame....it was a nice change from the earlier films....I wanna shoot scope again though...maybe next time...

Q:

We don't know what kind of evidence the FBI has, or how much. We only know that it is investigating, as we noted. When and if we can learn more, we will publish a follow-up.

A:

WHY SO CYNICAL MY FRIEND!?

Emailed a list of mine with over 200,000 people to notify them of this.

Q:

Do you have a buyer lined up? What price are you looking at/for?

A:

So does anyone else find it weird as Hell that this AMA has multiple comments for every minute from brand new reddit accounts with no other posting history...?

And all the ones that are from brand new accounts start with "Hi Mike!" While all the ones from older accounts are much more natural sounding and don't have a greeting like that

Q:

Do you think that funk is making a sizable comeback?

EDIT: THE FUNK NEVER LEFT

A:

Thanks unfortunately I had an infection in one of my breasts near the AlloDerm so I had to have 2 extra surgeries and am about 4 months behind schedule. My surgeon is really happy with results now and we are thinking I will be done in March or April. I had lots of room between the tumor and my nipple so I was able to do nipple sparing.

It looks like you probably had your nipple removed. Are you planning on surgical reconstruction, 3D tattoo or just going nippleless? This is a big issue with the women I know that have reconstruction. I wonder what you are thinking as a man?

Q:

There is tons you can do. You can donate proceeds of your restaurant to legal defense or various activist groups. You can use your platform for education. You could help by employing former prisoners and people with felonies. You could provide a work-study program for former convicts or something that helps with reintegration into society.

A:

Hey Paul!

How did you and Jonny Greenwood first meet and decide to collaborate? You're both geniuses at what you do and this ongoing collaboration is an absolute treasure.

Big fan of your work, keep it up.

PS. Favorite Radiohead album?

Q:

If after the investigation ends, the FBI determines that NRA, Russia, and Trump did not collude, will you be publishing a follow up story explaining that?

Q:

I do not, $15,000 USD

A:

I emailed a list with 200,000+ people to notify them of this, heh.

Q:

I always thought I was the big dog

A:

Sorry about the complications. I'm debating on either nippleless or tattoo. I think i'm leaning more towards a tattoo though to try to cover the scar a bit.

Q:

Definitely! Excellent suggestions. First off I mainly use my platform for education. Currently we are too small to donate profits (because we haven't hit profitability yet), but we do employ a couple convicted felons with non-violent marijuana charges. And Currently we take in stages for a few days at a time but due to the structure of the company (we travel a lot for speaking engagements, dinners, etc) so it is hard to have a work study program until we have the restaurant up and running. When that is a reality, I look forward to having those things in place. And hopefully more! Right now, I try to help as much as possible. Both patients and non-violent offenders.

A:

Favorite Radiohead album...........ugh...i Hate this game. today....In Rainbows....tomorrow....something else...KId A perhaps?

Q:

Definitely.

A:

I emailed a list with 200,000+ people to notify them of this, heh.

Q:

How does that compare to MSRP? I think yours is the ideal case to test the estimates of how much value you lose by driving the car off the lot -- nobody has any reason to doubt that the car is new nor to think you're trying to pass off a lemon.

A:

Any tips for a woman trying to lose fat while having hormone issues?

Q:

Any plans to repress One Nation Under A Groove?

A:

Will you do any type of reconstruction?

I hope no one thinks I'm joking--I'm curious how a man feels about how a mastectomy has affected his body, and if you'll feel comfortable going shirtless. And good job to you for spreading awareness about this!

Q:

Wow, you seem like a super cool dude. Congratulations to you, reading about your business made my night better! Good luck on hitting profitability and don't forget about your roots!

A:

Hey Paul, big fan!

  1. Actor/actress you want to work with, but haven't yet?

  2. Which of your own movies are you the most proud of?

  3. Favorite Stanley Kubrick movie?

Q:

The FBI, as a policy, declines to comment on ongoing investigations, (except one recent example). Anonymous sources are fundamental to investigative journalism here in the US.

A:

Any tips for a woman trying to lose fat while having hormone issues?

Q:

its about $3k off MSRP, it will be towed on a trailer from the dealer to my house and never be driven

A:

Definitely. Want to email me? Would love to hear more and see how I can help.

Q:

Already in the works

A:

Nah I don't plan on any reconstruction. I have recently started trying to lose weight (definitely needed) so hopefully it will kind of just even out. Fingers crossed!

Q:

That means a lot to me, I sincerely thank you. And I won't!

A:
  1. Tiffany Haddish
  2. The Master 3.DrStrangeloveLolitaFullMetalJackTheShining - all one word

Q:

I understand your concern. Sources won't be quoted discussing classified information or an ongoing investigation. But we vet sources internally in making decisions about whether we have enough to publish a piece, and our standards are very high. There are many stories sitting in our system right now, on the Trump-Russia issue and others, that have not been made live because they don't meet our theshhold for sourcing.

A:

Definitely. Want to email me? Would love to hear more and see how I can help.

Q:

A friend of mine won a Prius and contacted the dealership she was to be picking it up from and asked about selling it back to them. They went back and forth a bit and eventually they reached an agreement. It worked well for the dealership as it could still be sold by them as a new car “never driven off the lot” and worked out awesome for my friend as it was more they could’ve got if they sold it privately. You may be able to negotiate a good price that would be difficult to get on your own and with less hassle of conducting a private sale.

Congrats and good luck with your sale!

A:

Mike,

I have been doing BLS for about a year now. I followed it day in and day out up until September of this year and my diet fell off around August of this year. After September I started working out with a friend with a exercise science degree and I just didn't like the program and just started back with BLS in December. In August I was 180 lbs and if I was estimating I'd say I was around 12% body fat. Fast forward to December and I was 196 lbs and I would estimate around 20% bodyfat. My dilemma is my body composition, amount of muscle, and strength has greatly decreased since August as I am now about 184 lbs. My plan is to continue the cut to 170 just to get my composition back and start a clean bulk/cut cycle of 3 months to 1 month for awhile. Is this a solid plan? Should I cut to a lower weight? Any advice as to whether to follow this thought process or not?

Q:

Did you ever figure out why you must chase the cat?

A:

First, I'm glad you caught it before it got any worst....

Being that males are not usually associated with breast cancer, what were some of the strangest reactions you have recieved after revealing that you were a young man fighting a rare form of breast cancer?

Again, I'm soooooo happy that you kicked chemo's ass!

Edit: Fuck you auto correct! Once again you make a fool of me. For all you folks who were able to decipher this gaggle fuck of not-so-good English words and look past the misspelling, congratulations.

And thank you for proving that reason will prevail!

Q:

How did you get banned twice from r/trees?

A:

Favorite David Lynch movie?

thank you so much for that info!

Q:

Cutting back to the 10% range and then lean bulking is a good place. You'll have muscle memory on your side so it's very possible that you recomp a bit on your way down, which makes it more fun. :)

A:

Pussy.

Q:

Thank you so much! A ton of people didn't believe me. They all thought it started somewhere else and just spread to the breast. I had to explain that it was just in my breast and nowhere else. Some people didn't know that men could even get it either. I told them that they definitely can it just is less common for men.

A:

The first time i posted a dish I thought people would enjoy but it was considered self promotion.

And the second time I answered someone with my website and that was considered a violation :/

But I’m back and will be a good boy

Q:

Q:

What is the total cost you need to get them to sign the title over to you officially making the car yours?

(I know at the end of the year it will increase for taxes, not questioning that)

A:

Hey mike! I’d love to get your take on the rising popularity of unsweetened but flavored soda waters. Seems like everyone is making the switch. It seems too good to be true though. Thoughts?

Q:

What's the drug of choice for a king of funk?

A:

It’s sad but people don’t know men have breasts period. Not breasts like boobs, but still.

I’m glad you recovered okay. Good luck with your future!

EDIT: I know about gynecomastia, a hormonal condition where men can develop breast tissue. I’m speaking generally, that its sad people don’t know men have breast tissue (hello nipples).

What’s more, it’s sad that people reacted to “I have breast cancer” with “yeah right, you’re a dude” rather than “oh, I didn’t know that could happen. Is there anything I can do to help?”

I know people aren’t bound to understand everything that isn’t common, but biology/sexuality/anatomy courses through school should make people at least aware enough to understand that the human body is anatomically female during development until the point where sexual differentiation occurs.

Q:

Alright so as a weed chef I'm hoping you can shed some insight on this crazy shit that I've been chasing for years:

The year is 2010; my roommate is prepping some ganjabutter for some ganjabrownies. I leave for a while and do i-cant-rember-what. When I come back I see that the butter has reduced and is currently BUBBLING LIKE CRAZY. Way too many bubbles, seems like the butter overheated and we were worried we burnt the product. So we take it off the heat immediately, mid bubble, and proceed to make some brownies.

They were insane. Hands down the most significant effect I have ever had from edibles. One brownie put me on the floor. Two brownies and I couldn't swallow food I had pasties so bad, and I must have been at a [12]. I needed confirmation and gave a brownie to a coworker in his 30's, a chronic smoker. Told him they were intense but homemade, and that there was only weed in them. The next day he thanked me for this caveat, as the high was so intense he would have thought there was acid or something on them.

The marijuana we used was normal. Smoking it gave normal effects. We didn't put any spectacular amount into the brownies, I think it was somewhere between an 8th and a quarter ounce.

I have tried to duplicate this butter/brownie method but to no avail! I have never been able to buy an edible of similar potency either.

Do you have any idea what happened here? I mean I guess the effects had a lot of scratchy throat/dry eyes/negative side effects, but god damn it was insane. If you know what I did and how to do it again I would love a link or instructional or something.

Anyway all the best! Thanks for the AMA.

A:

What's your favorite memory of David Foster Wallace?

Q:

What is your opinion on EC(A) stacking?

A:

about $2k

Q:

Hey if you like 'em and they help you drink more water, why not?

A:

The Chronic. Snoop's Shit. Whattup snoop! u/Here_Comes_The_King

Q:

Thank you! You as well!

A:

Oh man, I’ve been here dude. In fact, I thought that when people said they hallucinated from Cannabis they were lying for attention or something...until that day..

To answer your question, first off, you had some potent bud. Point blank. Second, by leaving that butter to boil, you had cooked off all of your Terpenes and Cannabinoids and been left with just THC. Ingesting just THC is kind of crazy, it is basically the same as a band only playing one note the entire time, super fucking loud. There are no supporting elements, nothing to direct that raw psychoactivity. CBD counteracts the psychoactivity from THC and the Terpenes give the type of high (giggly, contemplative, body, etc). You had none of that. So it was straight THC.

Hope that helps a little!

Edit: I've been corrected on the DMT information. u/Damienslust pointed out my terminology was incorrect and has a great explanation below of how DMT is correlated (or not correlated I should say) with this particular instance.

Q:

He turned me onto Don DeLillo. And he looked at us like we were all failing him....sweetly.

A:

It works. I'd leave out the aspirin though.

Q:

Do you already have a car or do you just want the money more? I know a lot of people who win cars sell them, but god damn I love those little Fiats.

A:

Just wanted to say as a dental hygienist that I've seen a rise in this in patients and it can cause cavities. There is no sugar but the carbonation is acidic so having several times throughout the day isn't a good idea. I recommend drinking them when you're already having a meal to make them not as harmful to your teeth. 😀

Q:

How many times now has Mother Earth been pregnant? Still 3?

A:

I'm glad to hear that you're doing well and that you're sharing your story.

I had a similar scare a number of years back. I was an 18-20 year old guy and felt a lump. Thought nothing of it for a few years and finally got it checked out. Had to get 3 mammograms over a year. Finally turns out it's just female breast tissue. Apparently 1/5 men or so have this, it just never develops because of the lack of estrogen. But I'm so glad that you're raising awareness about this. Men check your man titties for lumps!

Also have to have a question so what's your favorite food?

Q:

How prepared are you to only receive tips of $4.20?

On a more serious note how do you think this will affect other franchises that already exist? Do you think they will start implementing edibles or cannabis to their menus?

A:

How often does Maya make you fall over laughing?

Q:

That's what ive been doing. Thanks again!

A:

i am looking to sell it, are you in or near Southern California?

Q:

Hm, interesting point. Thanks for sharing!

A:

Yep still 3

Q:

I'm glad that everything turned out fine! Pizza is definitely the most superior food in the world.

A:

Haha I hadn’t thought about the tips. Perhaps the decimal will be moved over a space or two..

I think they will have to remain separated through licensing. Not every restaurant will be able to serve THC. Only those that have the on-site consumption licensing.

Q:

every day

A:

YW!

Q:

Do you get the car pictured on the show or do you pick your own of equal value from a dealer's inventory?

A:

Hey Mike, love your books. Both me and my husband have been following them for about 6 months and seeing great results. My husband hurt his shoulder somehow really badly and can no longer lift. Any ideas of exercises he can do in the interim to maintain his strength while his shoulder heals?

Q:

Any stories from the filming of PCU?

A:

First of all congratulations. Secondly how long did it take you to get through the initial brick wall of emotions that is "you have cancer"?

Q:

How do you dose edibles carefully enough to create a whole cannabis restaurant? Plus, your clientele won't be high until after they leave. I just don't understand your business model.

A:

What was Thomas Pynchon like when you met him (if he's actually real)?

Q:

Hi Mike thank you for everything that you do for the community.

What aspects from your daily life did you notice change the most after becoming a more well known public figure? How does you handle knowing how strongly you can influence so many individuals at a time and what is your process for putting out new information?

Of all people in the bodybuilding community you’ve always been the person I can count on for “no bullshit” information. I can’t thank you enough for doing the research and making it digestible for those of us who might not have the bandwidth to do so.

A:

you are given one from a dealerships inventory

Q:

Thank you!

The #1 rule of overcoming aggravations and injuries is WORKING AROUND THEM. That is, doing things that don't make them worse.

In your hubby's case, the first thing I'd recommend is seeing a good sports doc to asses the severity of the injury, as I'd really hate to give advice that might be right for SOME conditions but wrong for others, you know?

That said, I myself have dealt with shoulder pains in the past and something that has helped me, for example, is switching from barbell to dumbbell pressing (because BB was uncomfortable while DB wasn't).

This article might be helpful as well:

https://www.muscleforlife.com/rotator-cuff-exercises/

A:

Everybody on the set was fucked up. Toronto had the best weed around. Fuck the beer.

Q:

Thank you! It took a while for the shock to go away. About a week after he told me I just broke down for a bit. I was really mad at myself for waiting as long as I did to actually go get it checked out. It took about 2 weeks before I finally accepted it and got a more positive outlook on the situation.

A:

Our guests are at our dining experiences for 2-3 hours. If they stay in the lounge, perhaps even longer.

The dosage is coming in over 10 courses, so the way we have structured it is that the first two courses will serve as the initial take off, by course 4-5, 45 min after ingesting is when the effects start to creep on. The remainder of the meal is guiding them into a nice euphoric high zone rather than keep sending them to the stars. For us, it is about balance. We finish the meal with CBD before sending the guests into the lounge to decompress.

Essentially, everything is timed.

A:

Thank you!

Honestly I don't think of myself as a public figure or even well known. I'm kinda well known in a kinda small subgroup of people who are kinda really into working out, haha. I hope is stays that way too. I don't want celebrity.

So to answer your question, nothing meaningful has changed, really, which has worked to my favor. I've just kept myself focused on researching, producing content, and growing Legion, and that has not only worked out tremendously well on the business side of things, I think it has also helped keep me grounded.

Q:

Why not just take the cash value?

A:

Very glad I logged on! Thank you for the advice. I had the same thing happen about 8 weeks in. I hurt my shoulder because I lifted too much too fast. Form matters and I rushed it. Hope to start back tomorrow. Looking forward to making some progress again, Lord willing.

Q:

What is the best activity to do while listening to funk music?

A:

Was there any kind of discomfort or change with the lump?

I'm a guy with what my physician says is a hardened lymph node in my pectoral muscle, I'm still trying to figure out if a second opinion is warranted. $$$$, America and all....

Thx!

Q:

Interesting! How do you account for different metabolisms, weights etc? Do customers have, I don't know, like a chart they follow based on weight and experience of how much to eat?

A:

When you're writing scripts on MS Word do you use the screenplay template or do you write out the characters names every single time?

P.S. That scene in the Master when Freddie rides off in the desert is hilarious.

Q:

Hey mike! I’d love to get your take on the rising popularity of unsweetened but flavored soda waters. Seems like everyone is making the switch. It seems too good to be true though. Thoughts?

A:

its not an option

Q:

My pleasure. Live and learn. LMK how it goes.

A:

Dance your ass off and smoke a joint

Q:

It go to where when I laid on my stomach it would hurt my chest cause of how big it was getting. But I had no other changes other than it growing.

A:

Without proper funding, we are still a little ways off from a universal chart, and even then my guess would be around 75%-85% accurate. However we ask extensive questions to better understand the guest so we know previous experiences.

We also use a nano technology that allows for a faster metabolism in the body which helps us stay on track with various guests.

Q:

HA! I write their damn names out every time! Feels good.

A:

Hey if you like 'em and they help you drink more water, why not?

Q:

Maybe you can get a dealer to take the car directly and that way they can ensure that the car doesn't have an owner before they sell it. It's a win for you and them.

A:

How are the protein bars coming along?

Q:

Was there any counter movement or objection to funk music, or was it a type of music that was accepted by everyone at the time? What treatment did you receive once you guys became a more well-known act?

A:

Did it hurt? Cancer I mean. Well, and chemo.

Q:

However we ask extensive questions to better understand the guest so we know previous experiences.

Cool, so it's a customized experience. Sounds neat!

We also use a nano technology that allows for a faster metabolism in the body

Could you go into more detail here?

A:

Hey PTA.

When I think of dialog, it sounds good in my head. But when I put it on paper it becomes garbage. How would you solve this problem?

Q:

Just wanted to say as a dental hygienist that I've seen a rise in this in patients and it can cause cavities. There is no sugar but the carbonation is acidic so having several times throughout the day isn't a good idea. I recommend drinking them when you're already having a meal to make them not as harmful to your teeth. 😀

A:

good idea!

Q:

Well!

We actually approved the last samples and then discovered that one of the ingredients was suddenly unavailable (oligodextrin). :-(

We're now waiting for the next samples without it, which should come this week (and should be good--fingers crossed!).

A:

We were too black for white folk. And too white for black folks. But as time passed, more people got on board. By the time we released Mothership Connection we had a huge fan base. We’ve been one nation under a groove ever since.

Q:

The bone pain from the shot of Neulasta I had to get after chemo was the worst pain i've ever felt in my life. Other than that the nausea and tiredness was all the chemo did to me really.

A:

Definitely!

Nano technology is a fancy way of saying that the THC or CBD molecules are suspended in a water soluble solution making it homogenize with anything water based (where as usually it’s only fat soluble). Our epidermis can absorb things that are 40-60 nanometers wide so the nano technology also breaks the compounds from being 4000 nanometers wide to being 40-60nm which allow it to be ingested and metabolized much quicker than a normal extraction.

Q:

hmmmmmm. good question. what's it sound like when you say it out loud? it doesn't need to look good on the paper if it's a script....a novel maybe, but a script is just a temporary thing....good for the actors, not for reading....

A:

Hm, interesting point. Thanks for sharing!

Q:

Nice! I’ve always wanted to know, is the show really made from duct tape and plywood on the other side?

A:

Hey Mike! I find myself in conflict. I know I want to be leaner and stronger, those are clearly paramount as evidenced by their presence in two of your book titles.

But it's a toss-up between "thinner" and "bigger". If I get both books will I just sort of hover at the same weight?

Q:

How long do you have to pick up the car? Is there a limitation of how long they will hold it for you to get the money together?

A:

Hey Mike, huge fan, glad you're doing an AMA, I have lots of questions I’d like to ask you but will stick to one for now.

I have a question about how to implement the stuff in ‘Becoming a Supple Leopard’. I bought it (based on this article you wrote) expecting guidance on stretching and general mobility and am overwhelmed by how much it requires a complete change in the way you move and think about mobility.

For example, I’m having trouble even knowing if I’m performing the mobility checks properly (ie. Am I even “externally rotating my shoulders” or am I misunderstanding what that means/feels like?). Kelly also moves so fast in his videos sometimes, and is so much more flexible than me to the point where I have a lot of trouble recreating his movements.

Did you have any issues like this? Do you have any recommendations on how to get the most out of the book?

Q:

What was it like on the set of Kuso?

Is it true that you told Eddie Hazel to play one half of Maggot Brain like his momma died, and the other half like he found out his momma was still alive? Some of my friends say this backstory is a myth, but i'm not so sure.

A:

Do you by chance live near a military installation? There has been documentated cases of an increase in infant mortality and male breast cancer near military installations due to hazardous chemicals contaminating the local water supply.

Q:

Medicated or not?

Edit: thanks for the answer.

A:

Hi Paul!

What was the main lesson you took away serving as your own (collaborative) DP on Phantom Thread? Will you continue to shoot your own movies in the future?

Q:

How are the protein bars coming along?

A:

10-30 days

Q:

Thank you!

I totally understand. That's a huge downside of that book. It's a tome.

Have you checked out my articles on MFL on mobility? They give some simple routines to start with.

I also plan on creating a digital course on mobility this year (MFL 2.0, which is on the way, will include digital courses).

A:

Beautifully gross and nasty. Plus there was a hole in my ass bigger than the hole in my ass. And the story about Maggot Brian is half true. I told Eddit to play it like he found out his momma died. That's it.

Q:

I live about 20 miles from a military base. That's pretty interesting do you have any links?

A:

At that point, Medicated

Q:

My main takeaway was hire extreme proffesionals to surround you and point like you have a lot of confidence and know what you're doing. Would I do it again? I think I might.....but I also wanna work with Chivo, Bob Richardson...tons of others...

A:

Well!

We actually approved the last samples and then discovered that one of the ingredients was suddenly unavailable (oligodextrin). :-(

We're now waiting for the next samples without it, which should come this week (and should be good--fingers crossed!).

Q:

So if you went in at 8 days they would tell you to leave and come back next week?

A:

Following up, I want to thank you for committing to quality in your supplements and your content. It's genuinely changed the way I approach my life in that it's made me realize that there are experts and research behind most things I do, and I've since started seeking that research and those experts on everything I can.

I'm also a huge fan of the podcast, and appreciate that you really get into the nitty gritty on the research you cite, the chemical affects produced inside your body by supplements and activity, and that you bring on the actual scientists and researchers to discuss their findings.

Anyways, enough fanboying, appreciate everything and keep up the great work!

Q:

Thank you for Maggotbrain?

The questionmark is because this mod motherfucker is a motherfucker?

A:

I have a lipoma in my chest and needed an ultra sound to get that confirmed. Unfortunately, my local hospital wouldn't do an ultrasound until I had a mammogram. I found the whole procedure to be very embarrassing and emasculating. How has dealing with breast cancer as a male affected you?

Q:

So I just started a keto diet and I'm missing my edibles dearly, any chance you have some low-carb low-sugar recipes?

A:

There's a song credit at the end of Phantom Thread for a Jonny Greenwood piece called "Puck Beaverton's Tattoo" (obvious reference to Inherent Vice) that doesn't appear on the release of either OST.

Any story here? Just a left-over piece from IV?

Q:

How has the addition of selling on GNC and Bodybuilding.com affected business? Are you seeing an uptick in interest and sales?

A:

no, but its an initial, and up to 30 days

Q:

So glad to hear this, haha thank you. I'm flattered. Lots more to come!

A:

I agree

Q:

I was very embarrassed. It was one of the reasons I waited so long to do anything about it. I felt like I had nobody to relate to almost if that makes sense. The people working at the breast center I went to for my mammogram and ultrasound seemed shocked I was there. It was definitely just a weird experience overall.

A:

We have a few. If you don't mind, I would love to PM you the recipes when we are wrapping up the cookbook because they will be in a better format and for 4-6 people.

Q:

Well, yes.....good spotting....it's an Adaption of an old cue....Jonny took it and played it with an orchestra - instead of his computer....we fleshed it out and made it sound spooky ....

A:

They're making sales but not much in the overall scheme of things.

Q:

What does Drew Carey smell like?

A:

Wife and I joined high end gym and started working out regularly at age 50. We are now in our 60’s and looking to get better overall results. Started reading your book and value your advice regarding exercise, nutrition, etc. we are professionals and have busy schedules so our gym visits must be flexible. We’ve tried cross fit but trainer moved and we had to drop. We felt good but we’re also fearful of injury.

We’re looking for a workout that will get us toned, stronger and overall feeling great with minimum time. Commitment. HITT workouts? We’re bored with same old routine, and most trainers we talk to at the gym have their own program which we’re not sure would work for us. At trainers’ hourly rate of $100+ we’re not sure whether to just pick one and hope for the best or whether there is a better way for us to improve our results. Need motivation at this point. Any suggestions that might work fore us?

Q:

Boxers, briefs, or fig leaf?

A:

How does a mammogram work on a man? I was told that it flattens the breast tissue like a pancake. I’m genuinely confused at how that would even be possible to do on a man.

Q:

Is Gary with you right now?

A:

What was it like making Junun? Did you like the digital filmmaking process and making a documentary for the first time?

Q:

Hey Mike! I find myself in conflict. I know I want to be leaner and stronger, those are clearly paramount as evidenced by their presence in two of your book titles.

But it's a toss-up between "thinner" and "bigger". If I get both books will I just sort of hover at the same weight?

A:

ralph lauren

Q:

I totally understand. First, check this out:

https://legionathletics.com/fitness-at-any-age/

Then, shoot me an email so I can give you something a bit more suited to your circumstances and goals.

P.S. I'm SERIOUSLY considering a "BLS/TLS for the 30s and beyond" book next. Going to be shopping it to publishers very soon...

A:

Depends

Q:

Being fat it made it easier to flatten it. I have no clue how they would do it to a man that had a flat chest.

A:

Hah! He is working in the house as am I :)

Q:

It was so much fun. I loved working with my little Blackmagic camera and filming people pay music...it was stress free and inspiring...more of a home movie than a documentary. I"m so happy you saw it - wish everyone would see it. I'm really proud of that film.

A:

Probably, BUT if you include The Shredded Chef, you'll also get shredded...

Q:

So you smelled Drew but not Amber? God damnit.

A:

Hey Mike!

Why don’t you cut your hair?

Q:

Can you explain the ‘dooloop’ part of ‘Psychoalphadiscobetabioaquadooloop’?

Follow up question: How does Sir Nose feel about water these days?

A:

I see someone already talked about the genetic test, but I also want to say that if it's possible, you could ask your mom or your sisters to have a genetic test as well. Also remind them to have annual check!!!

You are such a strong man, buddy! Keep in mind, follow up is important! Also have a positive, healthy life~

Quick question: How's your feeling after chemo? Do you feel something changed, physically or mentally?

Wish you all the best!

Q:

Are you aware that edibles can trigger psychotic breaks even among people who have no issue smoking flower (tiny percentage but)? How do you plan to mitigate this? Quick google search results.

EDIT: I'm all for legalization but I had an experience where a gf ate half of pea-sized piece of cannabutter and was "attacked by wring wraiths" trying to suffocate her for 40 minutes afterwards. So I looked up and it turns out it's a thing.

A:

we all know you love some goood screenplays--- who are some of your favorite AUTHORS (short stories, poetry, novels...)??

Q:

Hey Mike, huge fan, glad you're doing an AMA, I have lots of questions I’d like to ask you but will stick to one for now.

I have a question about how to implement the stuff in ‘Becoming a Supple Leopard’. I bought it (based on this article you wrote) expecting guidance on stretching and general mobility and am overwhelmed by how much it requires a complete change in the way you move and think about mobility.

Did you have any issues like this? Do you have any recommendations on how to get the most out of the book?

A:

she didn't really smell like anything

Q:

BECAUSE I'M A FUCKING ALPHA MALE HUNTER GATHERER PROTECTOR PROVIDER WARRIOR POET AND PERSONAL LIBERTY SAYS I CAN GROW MY HAIR AS LONG AS I FUCKING WANT.

A:

Dooloop is that looping of the concept around and around jumping in and out of water. You can't swim but you do it again over and over again. Sir Nose don't have no sense in his brain. Its snot logical. The membrains in your nose don't have any sense. So he keeps jumping in the water not realizing that he can't swim til he's in there.

Q:

Thank you so much for the compliments! I did ask my mom and sisters to take the genetic test but they didn't seem concerned. It scares me but I can only ask them so many times. The only thing I've noticed is i'm a lot more scared of random things. If I cough too much I start thinking like "is this lung cancer?". Or if my throat hurts "is this cancer too?".

A:

This is an excellent question! One that I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about.

The answer is three fold. 1st is that we know how much we are dosing people and we ask extensive questions to better understand our guests needs and tolerances to avoid the issue in the first place. If that doesn’t work as planned, At Herb Restaurant, we plan on having “Guides” (not servers) that are trained with detecting mannerisms of people that may be starting to feel uncomfortable. CBD will be given immediately. Then we plan on having a psychiatrist/yogi in the lounge where if someone is feeling overwhelmed, they are able to drink fresh juices, talk through their heightened state with the yogi and be calmed through CBD.

Q:

Chester Himes! Thomas Pynchon (obviosuly) john o'hara..John Steinbeck...George Orwell....Shirley Jackson! Caroline Blackwood

A:

Thank you!

I totally understand. That's a huge downside of that book. It's a tome.

Have you checked out my articles on MFL on mobility? They give some simple routines to start with.

I also plan on creating a digital course on mobility this year (MFL 2.0, which is on the way, will include digital courses).

Q:

I'd have to take a lot of drugs to appear, I'm pretty laid back.

A:

Hello Mike What's your take on the ketogenic diet?

Q:

You recently said you won a legal victory giving you the rights back to the four Warner Bros. era Funkadelic records?

Any further updates?

Will you be doing your own reissues of these albums?

A:

Congrats!

My question: have you seen Archer?

Q:

Thanks for the reply. I wish you the best and I suppose it's not a huge issue given the number of outfits making/selling edibles but that was one night I wish I could forget. It wasn't simply a bum trip, she was hallucinating and inconsolable. And the dosage was minute.

A:

Paul, I've always loved your story about leaving film school and the films you've made since then, so I have three tough questions for you:

  1. Was Phantom Thread primarily inspired by your marriage?

  2. Would you ever consider making a television series?

  3. What does a PTA story need to have?

Q:

Following up, I want to thank you for committing to quality in your supplements and your content. It's genuinely changed the way I approach my life in that it's made me realize that there are experts and research behind most things I do, and I've since started seeking that research and those experts on everything I can.

Anyways, enough fanboying, appreciate everything and keep up the great work!

A:

they just ask basic questions like where you are from and what you do. they just listen to how you respond

Q:

Mostly overrated and unnecessary. If you really enjoy it, though, that's a reason to do it.

A:

Yes

Q:

I have not seen it but I have heard good things!

A:

I mean the reality is, it happens. And we have to prepare.
However I can almost certainly tell you the tiny bite she ate may have been minute, but the dosage was probably astronomical. That’s why it’s so important to regulate the industry and have some consistent products.

Q:

1) Inspired by my marriage? Not really. But kind of sort of....we're not that weird.

2) Yes, television. sounds good. but....I like makin' movies more i think.

3) What does it need? hmmmmm. Characters. good venue. and some tasty tunes by Jonny G?

A:

So glad to hear this, haha thank you. I'm flattered. Lots more to come!

Q:

Can you opt for a cash payout or do you have to reject if you can't pay the taxes?

A:

Hi Mike,

Big fan of the work that you and Jeremy do.

I have a business-realted question, if that's OK:

I'm looking to write and self-publish a self-help/self-motivation type book that'll cover a lot of psychology as well as physical fitness, diet etc. to help people with their productivity in their work and every day life (but particularly solopreneurs, entrepreneurs, business people etc.). Seeing as you absolutely smash it when it comes to promotion of your self-published books, do you have any tips for the best ways for me to market such a book, please?

Thanks.

Q:

George, are you aware of the show "Mighty Boosh" and the episode entitled 'Legend of Old Gregg'? This episode references an experience you may or may not have had. Care to comment?

First off, I love your shower curtain! Second, how are you coping with your body change? I know when women have a mastectomy they tend to have a hard time dealing with their breast(s) being removed. As a male do you think it affects you the same way? Are you considering doing anything to the site when this is all over like a tattoo or anything?

Q:

A psychiatrist might be a bit expensive ...

A:

Hello Paul! So excited to read your responses to these great questions.

1) What do you think the filmmaking industry will look like in 50 years? Do you care?

2) What's your favorite film from the silent era?

Q:

Q:

Thank you!

The #1 rule of selling a lot of books is write a really good book--a book that people are going to talk about. If a book can't generate word of mouth, it's doomed, period, no matter how slick the cover, title, endorsements, launch, etc. are. It will go like a bullet into a swimming pool.

Another major part of selling a lot of books is creating something unique and interesting that fills a real gap in the marketplace. When I published BLS, there was no other book like it on Amazon. Now it's glutted with me-too copycat books that go nowhere because mine are so well established (as a guy or gal looking to improve your body composition, what are you going to buy: a book with, in the case of BLS, over 3,000 reviews and hundreds of success stories written by someone who clearly walks the walk, or a book with a dozen reviews from a no-name?).

Point being: make sure you're not just swiping the material in the bestsellers. Make sure that your book doesn't address the same issues in the same ways as everything else in the space. Really dig in and find a concept that is fresh and unique.

A:

I'm mad because I didn't do this shit. I like it.

(*I just showed him the video and he's laughing!)

Q:

At first it was shocking to take my shirt off. I didn't really like seeing it. Now it's just kind of there and I think I want to get a tattoo to cover some or all of it up.

A:

Probably less expensive than calling 911 like some suggest.

But seriously, it’s just a measure to make sure people are comfortable.

Q:

Lemme get my crystal ball........

it says, we'll all be watching movies in Movie Theaters...on film....weird.

Q:

Anyone have to reject while you were there? I wonder how many prizes go unclaimed because of the taxes.

A:

Hi Mike!

I'm actually in the middle of the workout right now, monday chest day, trying hard to beat my 6x30kg at inclined dumbbell bench press!

I keep having trouble with my fitness app, I was wondering how Stacked was going and if there was any plan to add it to android?

Seriously, thanks for helping me get into fitness, I'm having a blast!

Best,

Nick M

Q:

Thank you Mr. Clinton. Is there anything you remember about producing for the Red Hot Chili Peppers?

A:

Congrats on fighting it. So we have this false perception that as men we can’t get breast cancer. Did it sink in right away or did you kinda tell the doctor; but I’m a man this can’t be.?

Q:

Are you worried at all about Jeff Sessions and the reversal of the Cole Memorandum? If not, do you think that this decision has the potential to get the ball rolling on Nationwide decriminalization/legalization?

A:

Hi Paul. You've worked with a lot of the same people since your early 20s (Bridges, Elswit, Tichenor, Sellar etc). Did you pick these people very carefully out of admiration for their work, or was it more coincidental? Especially with Elswit - did you immediately know this was your guy?

Q:

Hey Mike!

Why don’t you cut your hair?

A:

everyone accepted

Q:

Haha nice! Glad you're rolling!

Yessir, but first we're going to do a round of improvements on iOS and see how they're received.

A:

I remember the socks they were wearing were too big. I had to buy them some snuffleupagus jock straps.

Q:

At first I kind of shut down. Everyone was telling me it was most likely a cyst or some other benign lump. I guess with so much assurance that it wasn't cancer I got my hopes up too high and it just crushed me to hear it. After a while though it got to the point where I just blame it on shit luck for it to happen.

A:

I am not that worried as my lawyers have really set up my business structure in the best way possible for this sort of outcome. I think that it could urge congress to make decisions quicker which could be a huge success for us all. However in the meantime, he is scaring the shit out of small businesses and forcing many of them to operate even further in the gray zone or perhaps illegally. The bigger companies in the industry can afford to hold out, the smaller companies cannot.

Here is what my law team from Frontera said:

The Cole Memo was a memo that set forth the enforcement priorities of the Federal Government relative to cannabis.  In layman's terms, it basically said, if you complied with state law and didn't run a cartel, organized crime ring, traffic cannabis interstate or out of the country or otherwise be a bad actor, you were not the Federal government's enforcement priority.  Instead the Federal government's priority was going after these bad actors.  Sessions decision to overrule the Cole Memo means that there is no enumerated Federal enforcement priority (i.e., the Federal government should treat any CSA-violation by any cannabis operators like any other Federal crimes).  Meaning, there is no have a preference as to who to prosecute, so the DEA could conceivably go after anyone that violates the CSA (i.e., all cannabis operators).

At least until the new budget goes into effect (perhaps later this month), the Rohrbacher Blumenauer budget amendment still provides cover.  The Rohrbacher Blumenauer budget amendment provides that the Federal government is defunded from spending money prosecuting state- compliant medical cannabis operators.  Case law interpreting this provision says that the Federal government can spend money prosecuting a case against operator, but, if the operator can show state-level medical cannabis law compliance, the case is dropped.  It is unclear if this will be renewed in the next budget.

Whether Sessions intends to go after California operators is unclear.  It does seem that this move was intended to be directed as a shot at California, given that he changed a 5 year enforcement policy 3 days after California's new program went live.  Practically, it doesn't seem to be a good use of Federal resources given the U.S.-wide perceived popularity of cannabis (pursuant to polls).  Additionally, this does not seem to be a move that would be supported by Trump's base (which likely would prefer the fund to go towards say, the wall/immigration issues).

This might be a big deal, and could signal a line of high profile cases brought by Sessions and the DEA (if Rohrbacher Blumenauer is not extended).  I would imagine they would target big operators (like Harborside) to make a splash in the news cycle and to scare and deter smaller operators.  But, you never know with this administration.  On the other hand, it very well could be not a big deal at all.  The backlash from politicians in the 29+ green states will push this issue into the national spotlight, in a way that the Trump administration might not want. Only time will tell here.

Q:

Elswit was the only one who had a resume. The rest of us all found each other and started getting to work - big dreams and all...

A:

Hey Mike, What's your top three health/fitness misconseptions you wish people knew the truth about? Big fan of the books and tour work all round!

Q:

George, what planet are you from?

A:

I feel like I wanna hug you right now. Good for you for getting over that. I am sure It has been a very difficult thing to go through. My question is: how did all this change the way you see life, the things we were previously complaining about and your relationship with people?

Q:

How to I integrate cannabis into my menus so that I can accurately judge the amount of cannabis I am serving?

How can the home cook use cannabis flower?

How do you reduce or eliminate that distinct cannabis funky flavor found in many edibles?

How can I use flower in my BBQ rubs or spice blends?

A:

not really, but you will anyway

Q:

Thanks!

  1. Strength training is just for people who want big muscles.

  2. WHAT you eat is far more important than HOW MUCH if you want to lose fat/not gain fat.

  3. You have to obsess over "clean eating" to be lean and healthy.

The planet Sirius better known as the Dogstar. Sirius A and sometimes known as Sirius B.

Q:

Honestly, I think it made me appreciate everything more. I spend more time with my family now instead of just staying home all the time. I feel like the relationship with people around me got awkward for a bit. Seeing people now, they avoid the topic of cancer altogether now. If I talk about how treatments were going I felt like the mood in the room just changed dramatically.

A:

It all starts with what you are using to infuse the menu. What I recommend doing is (if you live in a medicinal or rec state) going to your local dispensary and picking up extract that you love and asking for the lab testing with it. That way you understand how much THC is in it. From there you can extrapolate how much THC is being used based on the volume/weight of ingredients you are putting into the recipe and devising it by servings. That is not exactly how we do it, but this is sufficient for home use.

The home cook can use flower in a few ways: you can extract it in a fat, you can extract in ethanol, you can vaporize it (or smoke it but smoking defeats the purpose of tasting your food), you can pulverize it into a dust and use it as a flour (mixed with AP flour), you can rub it on your body while wearing lingerie, you can finish a BBQ dish off by using the flower to smoke the dish, and more. Although I’d be weary using top shelf nug for these types of applications.

The first thing I would do if I were you to get rid of the taste is lower the dosage. Most people don’t need 500mg THC in the brownie pan. It is overpowering and really doesn’t taste good. Second is to use a highly concentrated form of THC, if you are using a super concentrated extraction, you’ll only have to put in a few drops for the whole pan. Third is to balance the flavor so it doesn’t come through. Here are some things that balance it: Tomatoes and tomato sauces due to their high acidity and sweetness, Cacao, high acidity fruits.

I wouldn’t recommend using the flower so much. Because you really aren’t going to get the most out of the bud by using it in this type of application. However I’ll tell you a little secret. Use the fan leaves from your plant. Each strain has a distinctive fan leaf flavor and when you dehydrate it and grind it, it can be used as an excellent spice.

Q:

He'd drink mine for sure.

A:

Q:

If you win something, like a car or something that you don't want or need, can you just say "No thanks!" to the Price is Right people??

A:

Hey Mike! Was thrilled to hear you were doing this today.

My question for you is what’s your advice on lagging muscle groups? For example I believe my arms, shoulders (having a difficult time getting that “capped” look) and upper chest are lagging (typical, I know) but I️m currently doing your Phase I workout from your Bigger Leaner Stronger book. I absolutely love I️t so far and i was wondering if there should be any other exercises or reps I should be adding on to help bring up my lagging muscle groups or just stick to Phase 1 and hammer I️t out?

I️m a 20 year old guy who’s been lifting for 4/5 years and as I get older I’m trying to make sure I️m keeping up with every muscle group evenly.

Thanks for taking the time to answer all of our questions today man!

Q:

What do you think about Rage Against The Machine's cover of "Renegades of Funk"?

A:

Your answer made me smile. I lost my dad to cancer and it really change the way I see my life (for example I never complained again about a silly boy problem or I did not pay attention to things that were not so important) and the people around me. I wish to nobody to go through what you went through, but it makes me smile seeing them getting something positive out of it. It shows a very strong person to be able to see something positive out of something so sad. I wish you the best! My love from Greece x

Q:

Are you using your celebrity in this field as a platform for those currently in prison for using the same plant? Have you considered ways you could positively influence that population?

A:

Hi, have you ever been to Ireland, did Daniel invite you when you were working on Phantom Thread?

Q:

Best,

Nick M

A:

you can!

Q:

Hey hey!

Hmm for now I'd stick to the program as laid out and see how things are looking after 3 or 4 months or so. If it's still an issue then you can definitely make some modifications. I could help you via email when the time comes?

A:

Rage Against the Machine is definitely a rock band that can play hip hop on instruments live. So when they are funky they sound like Super Stupid, that era of Funkadelic. They bad.

Q:

I am so sorry for your loss. Wishing you the best as well!

A:

Absolutely, I answered in an earlier question but that is part of the reason for de-stigmatizing. I have worked with and greatly admire this lady by the name of Cat Packer. She is head of the Minority alliance in this industry and I’ve had her on my show, as well as supported her through meetings and what the whole initiative stands for.

I am not oblivious to the disparity and unfairness of those incarcerated for enjoying the plant.

Q:

Great question! We wrote a lot of it in Ireland as a matter of fact! Just the two of us sitting at the Kitchen Table. Long walks and naps and lots of daydreaming. A great memory to have with me when I think of making this film.

A:

Haha nice! Glad you're rolling!

Yessir, but first we're going to do a round of improvements on iOS and see how they're received.

Q:

Is it true they have people outside the studio welling to give you like 20% in cash of your car’s worth so that you don’t have to pay taxes?

A:

Hi Mike. I am a big fan and BLS helped me make some fantastic changes in my life. I have 2 questions. 1. Is there a path for stacked app to contain year 1 challenge from BLS and BBLS? 2. In one of your deadlift videos I see you using towels or something similar during your lifts. I am struggling with grip strength and knurl roughness around fingers for my deadlifts that are progressing heavier. Does whatever you are wrapping around the bar help with those? Also what is your take on alternating grip for DL and it's affects on muscle asymmetry?

Q:

HUGE fan here - saw you three times already and looking forward to your show in San Luis Obispo later this spring.

QUESTION: in the 90’s it seemed like you had toured with a musician alternate for each member of your group. You were known for performing for up to three straight hours. My question is: was this to be able to play lengthy sets or was it primarily so musicians could party - like if they got too high they could be swapped out for a more sober musician?

THANK YOU for keeping our society Funkadelic and inspiring so many of us musicians and funksters!!!!!!

A:

hey man! best wishes and all the best for your recovery..

are you totally done with it? or are there further steps still needed?

how have people been towards you while you had the cancer? any specific incident you remember for it being way too nice or bad?

all the best again!

Q:

Do you have any tips for someone that's willing to uproot their lives and move cross country to get into the cannabis industry?

A:

What are some 2017 movies that stood out to you?

Q:

Hey Mike, What's your top three health/fitness misconseptions you wish people knew the truth about? Big fan of the books and tour work all round!

A:

that is not true

Q:

Awesome! So glad to hear it. :)

  1. Yes, we are working toward this. Big changes coming this year.

  2. Just paper towels for grip. Helps, haha.

I think it's good advice. I actually wrote about this here:

https://www.muscleforlife.com/deadlift-grip/

A:

Nah it wasn't that. It was so a lot of people could get a paycheck. It happened every once in a while when someone was high. It was mainly to get a check. The show was so long, sometimes you'd need two drummers to carry it on.

Q:

Thank you! I go back to the oncologist this Monday. I don't know if anything else is going to be done or if it's over yet. Family and friends say "I love you" a lot now I've noticed. Also, people tend to try to avoid saying anything about it or talk about it at all. I think it makes them either uncomfortable or they don't want to make me uncomfortable.

I remember after my first dose of chemo I had to get a shot called Neulasta to increase my white blood cell count. I completely forgot to take medicine like they told me too because the shot causes bone pain. I woke up at 2 in the morning I couldn't move my head was killing me and my lower back felt like someone was stabbing me over and over. It would come in waves and it lasted about 3 or 4 hours. My husband got me my medicine and it thankfully dulled down. I never forgot my medicine again after that!

A:

Make sure you are financially stable to make such a decision. Make sure it aligns with your heart and what your truest passions are in life. Then go for it. Stay fluid and realize that your path may change directions, but your overall goal is what is guiding you.

Q:

Call Me By Your Name. City Of Ghosts. Wonder Woman. The Post. Lost City of Z. Star Wars. Baby Driver. I'm missing some and haven't seen a lot....I"m still catching up....

A:

Thanks!

  1. Strength training is just for people who want big muscles.

  2. WHAT you eat is far more important than HOW MUCH if you want to lose fat/not gain fat.

  3. You have to obsess over "clean eating" to be lean and healthy.

Q:

Were you acting outlandish or distinguished in the line where they take your name ?

A:

I’m a big fan of your books (both working out and cooking) and your shameless calling of broscience.

It seems like most of your success stories and tips are meant towards the ectoderm who has problems building mass. I sit on the other end (6’2, 250 lbs) - I can build strength (350 deadlift, 250 bench) and muscle really fast but damn that spare tire and manboob fat will not go away. I’ve been cutting for several months (2500 cal days) and, despite behaving at mealtime and keeping up at the gym, I’m not able to lose more than 1-2 lbs/mo.

Do you have science based evidence for the endoderms out there to get leaner?

Q:

Good Dr. Funkenstein, how do young performers bring back the funk to modern music? Also, are you a fan of Thundercat?

A:

Did you ever face difficulties just because of the simple fact you're a male with breast cancer? I figure a lot of people don't even know men can get breast cancer.

Q:

How did you get this idea ?

A:

Hi Paul! Do you have a go-to "comfort" movie?

Q:

Hey Mike! Was thrilled to hear you were doing this today.

A:

yes, very energetic and worked the crowd

Q:

Thank you!

You can do VERY well my friend because you are not going to lose muscle easily when cutting.

Most of the claims about eating/training for one body type or another are bullshit anyway. Check this out:

https://www.muscleforlife.com/body-types/

A:

Damn you answered your own question. Thundercat Flying Lotus and all that shit.

Q:

A lot of people thought I was lying when I told them. They would tell me that they always thought only women could get it.

A:

Cooking has always been a passion, but when I started to think about how to de-stigmatize this plant so people all over the world would be able to have access to its benefits, the people incarcerated could get out, and we could start using industrial hemp to spare earths resources. Food was the easiest way to break the stigma since all that was out at the time was brownies and rice crispies.

Its hard to complain or fight when you are served delicious food and drink and its even harder to carry a stigma about a plant in a dish with other plants. That at least was my original thoughts about it.

Q:

The Birdcage! or anything by Steven Spielberg.

A:

Q:

What’s your favorite kind of cheese 🧀?

A:

Skinny fat people should lose fat first and then gain muscle or gain muscle and then cut?

Q:

Have you ever seen Flying Lotus at a grocery store??

A:

Here's hoping it's all good news from here. I didn't have any questions at first but then I scrolled through your pictures and HOLY FUCK that scar is a lot bigger than I expected. How has it healed? How do you feel about it these days?

Q:

Lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. :)

A:

Yes in the film Kuso

Q:

It definitely was bigger than I expected as well. I am pretty much okay with it. I finally have a flat chest kind of now I just have to get the other half to flatten! It is weird though that sometimes I will think "damn my nipple itches" but it's not there so there's nothing to scratch!

A:

I was on Bong Apatite the first season episode 3. I like to get inspiration from nature and other great chefs.

I don’t currently grow my own but I have for years.

I prefer organic soil because it gives the plant such a great diversity in CBD and Terpenes. The bacteria in the soil really help to provide a distinct energy for a healthy plant. I’ve asked many high profile growers and most of them prefer soil as well.

Q:

For sure he loved him. for sure, for sure. don't you think? He just didn't know what to do when HW grew into his own man....

Fellow lactose intolerant here. There are many cheeses that have very little lactose in them to the point that it doesn't really have an effect. A particular favorite of mine is sharp cheddar.

A:

Hey Mike - BLS is awesome! You’re the man.

Hypothetical - If you were sitting down for your last meal, because the supplement / fitness industry finally came after you and figured out how to have you framed and executed, what would you eat? (Macros and calories don’t matter anymore, right???)

Q:

Do you have anything to say about Sun Ra and his arkestra?

A:

We're the same age! How did this change your life? Did you make any major changes in your life when you got diagnosed?

Q:

What college were you in?

Q:

I don't stay inside as often as I used to. I used to just stay home and play video games or watch TV or something like that. Now i'm going to see family and friends and going outside to actually exercise which is something I never would have done before. I don't want to die early so I'm really trying to improve my health

A:

Deep Cut Question! I forgot about that.

We didn't get very close at all. Ditched that idea in pre production.

A:

Hi Mike, just found out you were doing this. Thanks! Two questions: 1. Advice for someone who's 54 (like me) about gains/cuts--any differences for older people? I notice how slow muscles develop, and how fast fat develops, much more than when I was in my 30s, even 40s. 2. I've been reluctant to take on the whole macro-watch-everything-I-eat. Feels daunting, complicated. But I also see my progress stalling. So it's time. First steps to do that?

Q:

What are some entertaining Bootsy stories?

A:

Just saying congrats, treatment sucks. What is your favorite colored stapler?

Q:

If Von Miller called you the GOAT, you're okay in my book.

Would you mind explaining the context behind this? Did you meet up with him or cook for him or something? I'm a huge Von Miller / Broncos fan so I'm just curious how this went down.

A:

Hey Paul, Phantom Thread was a Beautiful film. I was lucky enough to see a 70mm screening of it.

1) why did you choose to shoot in 35mm and then blow it up to 70mm?

2) Jonny Greenwood's score gorgeous, maybe his best yet. I noticed that there are 1-2 pieces of non-original music that you used in the film: some oscar peterson and debussy’s string quartet. Those pieces blended in really well, to the point where if i didn’t know jazz and classical i wouldnt have noticed that they weren’t Jonny’s music. Was this intentional? did you pick the Debussy quartet? i was really excited to hear it pop up!

3) I love those “Thom, Jonny and a Cr78” videos that you made with radiohead. What was their reason for making those? What was the process like? How much work did thom and jonny do to prepare those new musical arrangements?

Q:

Skinny fat people should lose fat first and then gain muscle or gain muscle and then cut?

A:

yes, what you see is pretty accurate

Q:

My pleasure!

  1. Check this out:

https://legionathletics.com/fitness-at-any-age/

Should address most of your concerns.

  1. Yes, at least for a bit, so you can see how it works and familiarize yourself with the foods you like to eat. Then, once you have that experience under your belt, you should find it much easier to transition back to a more "intuitive" style of eating.
A:

We were driving into Toronto together and were contacted by a UFO. We saw a flashing light hit the ground first in front of our car. Three of four minutes later we saw it again two times, hit the street. Then the light hit the car and the light turned to liquid like mercury from a thermometer, beaded up and rolled off the car. All the street lights went out slowly as we passed. We looked behind us it was dark. Bootsy wasn't scared, he thought I knew what was going on. We weren't high, because he just crossed the border. We eventually arrived home and walked in the house and my daughter said, you all acting like you just saw a ghost! I didn't even think about it until later, why were we seeing light in daylight. I had to call Bootsy to confirm what time of day it was. We lost a lot of time that day and didn't realize it until years later.

Q:

Thank you it means a lot! Blue.

A:

I have not cooked with cannabis for him. Just regular non-infused Foods. But we became acquaintances after that and text every once in a blue moon. Solid dude with good taste

Q:

1) We didn't want to shoot 70 in the first place - not the right feel for this one. Blowing up to 70 gives you a really nice grain structure and a sturdy print - and there are lots of great places to play those prints now thanks to the master, hateful 8, dunkirk - it's the new 35! 2) thanks for that compliment.....yes, it's nice that they sit side by side together well - that was the idea - but also to have a little break here and there from jonny's score was good too - i picked debussy...it's a good one 3) those are my favs! great memory of filming in my backyard when they came through town on tour - just a couple cameras, a couple takes as the sun went down - the real reason was for posterity - and fun - maybe we should do some more....

A:

Lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. :)

Q:

Can you decide to take some prizes and not others to save the taxes? So could you say 'I want the car, but not the jewelry' or is it all or nothing?

A:

How many people work at Legion now? When do you anticipate expanding the team again?

Q:

What's is your current relationship with John Frusciante and how did you find working with the Chili Peppers?

A:

Radiation oncologist resident here... don't you need adjuvant radiation? I'm from Canada, but typically it would happen before adjuvant chemo.,, just wondering if your doc ever mentioned radiation as an option and if so, why it wasn't done?

Edit: AFTER adjuvant chemo

Q:

Have you reconciled with David Fincher and Kevin Smith?

A:

Hey Mike - BLS is awesome! You’re the man.

He did Gangsters of Love with me. He went back and got Chili Peppers with Kim Manning. We did an old R&B Song "Come on Baby Let the Good Times Roll". Chili Peppers are my boys. I can't say enough about them Flea, Anthony, John, Chad

A:

I finished my last dose of chemo on 1/11 and I go back to the doctor this Monday. Last time I saw the doctor he said we would discuss our next plan after all the chemotherapy was done. It's kind of a mystery right now for me.

Q:

We're all good.

Q:

so did you have to pay a luxury tax on the car? or how does winning work?

A:

Hope I'm not too late!

I'm a 5'11 female, 72kg and lifting regularly for about 3 years.

I'm a fitness instructor and teach Hiit classes 3-4 times a week. I do strength training 4 times a week but will the amount of cardio I have to do stop me from bulking? I don't build muscle easily as it is but at this point would it be purely down to diet?

I'm trying to keep my cardio fitness high so I can teach bit without impacting my strength and I think I'm failing!

Q:

I've had the pleasure of seeing you at my first show ever at the 1994 Lollapalooza and twice at Woodstock 1999. Thank you for the amazing memories!

In all of the decades you've rocked, do you have a favorite venue?

A:

How do you feel about missing a nipple now?

And I hope this doesn't sound insensitive but do you know if having gynecomastia was a factor in this or no?

Q:

Who is the Master? Is it Freddie or Lancaster?

Q:

yes, taxes and title are due at time of pickup...also, you have to pay income tax for the items you won the year of the air date. so for me, its 2018 taxes for a car and some jewelry

A:

Hey!

Hmm it's not ideal for bulking but that doesn't mean you can't gain muscle. You'll just need to make sure you eat enough food to stay in a slight surplus, and I would also recommend a high-ish carb diet.

Q:

My favorite venue is any place with a stage. No particular place. No particular city. Any place I can plug in and get down. It kinda helps if marijuana is legal there, it makes a difference.

A:

The doctor never said gynecomastia was a factor in it. I think the biggest factor was probably my weight. It is weird because sometimes I'll feel like I need to itch that nipple but it's gone so I can't do anything about it lol.

Q:

Peggy!

Q:

Are planning to take The Funky Bunch on a joyride?

A:

What is your favorite TV channel, and why is it the gorilla channel?

Also, could you please explain in detail how the way he hit that other gorilla was good?

Thanks Mike!

Q:

Dr. Funkenstein, what do you think of Childish Gambino's new album?

A:

Where was it exactly? I asked my doctor about it and he just said that having small breast tissue right under my nipple is normal.

Q:

Any advice for the lazy aspiring writer?

A:

How many people work at Legion now? When do you anticipate expanding the team again?

Q:

Yo it's about that time To bring forth the rhythm and the rhyme I'm a get mine so get yours

A:

Oh man if you only knew how much I love The Gorilla Channel.

Some days, I watch it for 17 hours straight kneeling in front of the TV, with my face just a few inches from the screen, so I can say encouraging things to the gorillas. I know they (probably) can't hear me, but when one gorilla hits the other one really good, I just can't control myself.

For example, one of my favorite gorillas, who I've named Harambe McHarambeface, is like a freakin' hammer in a nail factory. He has huge muscles and storms around like Donkey Kong on a diet of coffee and cocaine, and the way he hits those other gorillas isn't just GOOD, but damn near poetic. Imagine if you could watch Tyson in his prime roaming around the mall, uppercutting strangers. That's how good this gorilla hits the other ones.

My only complaint with TGC is sometimes it's boring because the gorillas aren't always fighting. All I want to see is gorillas hitting each other. A lot. And I know I'm not alone. If TGC doesn't fix this fascist microgression on my safe space, I'm going to burn my city down.

(Real talk, how fucking stupid/gullible/delusional do you have to be to actually believe that snippet was real? Gaslighting is way too easy these days...)

Q:

I think its the P

A:

It was directly under my nipple and areola. Also, it was hard to the touch.

Q:

keep sleeping.....then get off the couch.

A:

Q:

Did you get to hug Amber and what did she smell like? Congrats man.

A:

Can I translate your book to Arabic?

Q:

Whose idea was the mothership?

A:

First of all congrats, secondly I don't mean to be a jerk, but I'm legitimately curious if you were overweight when you found the lump? I know that excess fat causes an increase in estrogen and estrogen can cause you to develop breast tissue so basically I'm curious if any of that might have been a factor. Again, congrats on finishing up chemo and I hope it's only good things from here.

Q:

What is your favorite DDL performance? (other than TWBB and Phantom Thread)

Q:

i did!

A:

I'd love to do a deal with an Arabic publisher. Working on it!

Q:

After seeing all the huge productions, like Pink Floyd the Wall, I wanted to do a huge stage production too. You can thank Pink Floyd for the Mothership.

A:

Thanks! Yea I was overweight when I found it. I read online that weight does play a factor into it but my doctor never told me it was a factor for mine. He did recommend I lose weight and I definitely am trying harder now than I ever have!

Q:

Bill The Butcher!

A:

Hey!

Hmm it's not ideal for bulking but that doesn't mean you can't gain muscle. You'll just need to make sure you eat enough food to stay in a slight surplus, and I would also recommend a high-ish carb diet.

A:

Is the plant protein powder by Orgain a decent option? I'm trying to stick to a budget and it seems to be the cheapest option.

Q:

Do you eat breakfast? What do you eat?

A:

If you could raise one actor from the dead to work with, who would it be?

Q:

What is your favorite TV channel, and why is it the gorilla channel?

Also, could you please explain in detail how the way he hit that other gorilla was good?

Thanks Mike!

A:

thank you so much, i was 23

about an hour or so away

i got tickets for free online a couple days before, showed up that day and won

Q:

Honestly I'm really skeptical of any protein powder that's really cheap and sold in retail stores because high-quality powder is expensive and the margins needed to do well in retail are astronomical.

That said, Orgain MAY be legit. I haven't seen any third-party analysis, though.

A:

Bacon & Grits when I'm home

Q:

Oh ! Oh ! Humphrey. Cary Grant. Ida Lupino. Joan Fontaine. Charles Laughton. Myrna Loy. Carole Lombard. James Mason!!!!!!! We don't have enough time to play this game. Jason Robards!

A:

Hey Mike! Ive been wanting to know a little more about your golf game. What’s your favorite club in your bag? what is your handicap? if you could play a round with anybody in the world, who would it be and where?

Q:

Mr. Clinton, today is also Martin Luther King Jr day. Do you have any special messages to share, for his remembrance?

A:

Hi Paul!

You wrote a draft for a RDJ-led Pinocchio movie. Have you written or doctored any other scripts in between your directorial projects?

Q:

Can I translate your book to Arabic?

A:

thank you so much!

Q:

Honestly didn't golf much last year BUT I will be doing more of it this year! There's a club right by my house, which is the setup I had in FL.

Hmm favorite club? Whatever I'm hitting best that day, haha.

Didn't get a handicap before I left as I was just making the transition from the range/swing work to playing, but I did shoot a legit 83 from the blacks, haha.

Ricky Fowler? Seems like a neat dude. Congressional? So much history there.

A:

Just like we said in the 60s, peace and love, and remember what Martin Luther King is about.

Q:

We talked about doing it - and still might - it's a great idea but very hard to get right. I'm an RDJ fanatic. Here's hoping.... I don't have much that I haven't filmed already....one or two things....(that should probably stay hidden in a drawer...)

A:

I'd love to do a deal with an Arabic publisher. Working on it!

Q:

Was your heart pounding while you were on stage playing the game, or were you calm?

A:

Hey Mike, thanks for doing a AMA. Is it easy enough to get back to my original weight and size of 18% body fat after giving birth? Or is that no longer a possibility?

Q:

Thanks for doing this, George. It's great to have a chance to interact with such an iconic figure in music. I'm a huge fan of your work and had the privilege of seeing you and the gang in Melbourne, Australia last year.

  1. Why did you decide to revive the Parliament name for this new album? (the single sounds great btw, very excited to hear the album)

  2. Can you tell us more about the conception of Funkadelic's second album? How much of it was conceived of and recorded under the influence of LSD?

  3. Which artists have you enjoyed collaborating with the most and who would you like to work with in the future?

  4. When was the last time you took acid and how do you think it helped to shape and influence your music?

  5. Lastly, which planet is the Mothership heading to next and how can I get a ticket?

Peace and love, stay funky!

A:

Hi Paul, proud three time owner of TWBB here.

Early last year I spoke to a crew member on the set of Phantom Thread and essentially begged them for a job as a runner.

It didn't lead to anything unfortunately, but it did motivate me to go and make my own short film that I'm now about to put out into the world.

My question is, when you were first starting out how did you go about breaking into an industry that is seemingly closed off to outsiders? Is there a way you think would still work in today's age for getting noticed? (One better than walking onto one of your sets).

Stoked to see PT!

  • Jonathan

Q:

Is the plant protein powder by Orgain a decent option? I'm trying to stick to a budget and it seems to be the cheapest option.

A:

my heart was absolutely pounding

Q:

My pleasure!

Yes, you will be able to do that, but it may not be particularly easy while you're breastfeeding (assuming you will be) because most women find they're just too damn hungry while breastfeeding to maintain a deficit.

That said, once you've weaned your baby, you can get right to it.

A:
  1. Because the last album was Funkadelic "First Ya Gotta Shake the Gate". It's Parliament's turn. The new album is "Medicaid Fraud Dog" featuring the PFunk horns Fred Wesley, Pee Wee Ellis, Greg Thomas and Benny Cowan. The next album will be P-Funk Allstars.

  2. You got that right. All of that album Free Your Mind was recorded under the influence, over the influence, and between the influence of LSD and trendy chemical substances.

  3. I always enjoyed working with everyone. I'd like to work with Cardi B. She's got the funk. And the new Jay Z album is the motherfucker. I like the whole concept. I might write off that shit.

  4. Oh shit. 71 probably. It wasn't Acid after '69. It went commercial.

  5. We're going back to the Dog Star, the planet series, to pick up the Dogun and Nomos and Bouvier

Q:

It seems to be that the most sought after position in Hollywood with the least amount of competition is...writing....writing is the best job if you can get it....people are hungry for scripts...keep writing. Writing, writing, writing....

A:

Honestly I'm really skeptical of any protein powder that's really cheap and sold in retail stores because high-quality powder is expensive and the margins needed to do well in retail are astronomical.

That said, Orgain MAY be legit. I haven't seen any third-party analysis, though.

Q:

In retrospect, anything you wish you did differently?

A:

Q:

You're my hero man. How did you meet Bernie Worrell? Peace!

A:

Thoughts on "Lady Bird"? Maybe cast Greta Gerwig in your next film?

Q:

Hey Mike! Ive been wanting to know a little more about your golf game. What’s your favorite club in your bag? what is your handicap? if you could play a round with anybody in the world, who would it be and where?

A:

not at all

A:

At a barber shop in Plainfield NJ. He was still in high school and played with us in our doo wop band. My favorite musician in all the world. Always has been.

Q:

I haven't seen it yet - but it's next in the que. Greta I love! Greta Greta ! she's amazing.

Q:

Do you win the prize you bid on in Contestants Row as well?

A:

Is Stacked coming to Android this year? Do you guys need any volunteers to test out pre-release versions of the app and provide feedback?

Q:

This world has gone to shit. Can you take me to your home planet?

A:

Hey Paul, You're a huge music fan and it shows through your films, so I'm curious what the record was that meant the most to you in your teenage years?

Q:

Hey Mike, thanks for doing a AMA. Is it easy enough to get back to my original weight and size of 18% body fat after giving birth? Or is that no longer a possibility?

A:

i did!

Q:

Possibly! We're going to start work on a round of improvements to the iOS version very soon and see how that goes.

A:

I got that doo-doo, you know that

Q:

I loved listening to John Williams music as a teenager. (nerd) I loved Oingo Boingo, X, The Specials, The Motels -- all the great new wave stuff here on KROQ in Los Angeles.

A:

My pleasure!

Q:

Still haven't answered what we all want know, how much do you have to pay before getting the car?

A:

Have you ever actually been in an elevator with Kraftwerk?

Q:

Hi, Paul! I wanted to ask you about romantic love in films. How do you show relationships in movies and people falling in love without going into cliched elements like montages? How do you portray love and how is it influenced by other artists?

Thanks in advance, I'm looking forward to seeing Phantom Thread when it premieres in Colombia.

A:

[deleted]

Q:

about $2k

A:

No I have never been in the elevator with Kraftwerk but I'd like to get in there and record a song with Kraftwerk

Q:

I think Hitchcock had a good idea - he said shoot Love scenes like Murder Scenes and Murder Scenes like Love Scenes..maybe he felt that falling love was scary as shit.....? I think we've all felt that way sometime...

Q:

Who was that off camera that gave you the 63 answer?

A:

I’m sure you’ve answere this before, but what’s your stance on sampling? Does it still provide good mailbox money to this day? Do you think that reform is necessary to create a reasonable market for samples vs the arbitrary nature of licensing samples today? Finally do you consider a composition derived entirely of samples to be as creative as some of your best work?(or any of you original work for that matter)

Q:

Hi Mr. Anderson! I’m the manager of a non-profit art house theatre in Princeton and we would love to have you visit us during a screening of Phantom Thread (or any film you’d like!) if you’re ever in the area.

Additionally, what has been your favorite movie-going experience in a cinema?

A:

Is Stacked coming to Android this year? Do you guys need any volunteers to test out pre-release versions of the app and provide feedback?

Q:

actually, Desmond....the guy I was in the Showcase Showdown with

A:

You have to work your ass off to make that shit work. Public Enemy was a good arranger with samples. I've seen people do shit with our songs that's very intricate. The stuff Childish Gambino did with I'd Rather Be With You, he's killing it.

Q:

Don't get out too much but thanks for the offer.
My fav movie going experience? ARGH. Um......... Raiders of the Lost Arc at the La Reina Theater. 1980. Friday Afternoon. Opening Day.

A:

Possibly! We're going to start work on a round of improvements to the iOS version very soon and see how that goes.

Q:

How does the getting picked process work? Do you stand outside and hope to get picked to site in the audience for a chance? Do you buy tickets for a certain show and your name goes into a lottery? Or do you know your going up on stage before hand and just act surprised.

A:

What inspired the long soliloquy on "Good Thoughts, Bad Thoughts?"

Q:

hello paul! huge fan. who is your fav female director?

A:

you get interviewed in batches of 50-60 one by one for maybe 20 seconds each. the guy spoke to me for close to a minute. I worked the crowd and was energetic but not overly. They dont actually say Come on Down! in the studio, its added after, also the set is pretty quiet. They announce you are chosen with a Posterboard with your name on it. You find out while they are taping

edit: that post made no sense wtf

Q:

I read it somewhere, I don't know where. I didn't go to school or nothing to know all that shit. I read it in a magazine. It was a good thought and I put it in pfunk terminology.

A:

Kasi Lemmons! Kathryn Bigelow.

Q:

That makes so much sense that they don’t hear “Come on down” by the reactions they show. The delay and their eyes when the name is announced.

A:

Huge fan. Thank you for your work.

Who would you say are your largest musical influences? What artists should someone start with if they were trying to explore the genre of funk?

Q:

Do you ever watch your old movies if they come on TV?

A:

right?

Q:

Smokey Robinson is definitely the first. Sly Stone and The Beatles. Jimi Hendrix. I could say a lot more, but that would be a well rounded look at all the stuff I learned to do.

A:

usually for a split second ...and then....switch....

Q:

Are you going to try out for other game shows? What do you think about the experience overall?

A:

Why did Garry Shider wear a diaper on stage?

Q:

I love you Paul. Have you ever heard about Lisbon & Sintra Film Festival in Portugal? Would you consider visiting Portugal in the near future?

A:

YES! now that i know what it takes im going to try it out. I cant win on TPIR for 10 years, and Lets Make A Deal for 1 year

Q:

He was a baby at the time. I had got old and was a grand dad by then. It was time for the younger one to wear the diaper. Plus he liked wearing it.

A:

I love Portugal was there a few years ago.
was in Porto many years ago and loved it. ever heard of the festival - but it sounds nice - i'll bring my bathing suit.

Q:

Do you pose like that for every photo you take of yourself?

A:

We love you Dr Funkenstein, your funk is the best!

Question: other than keeping a strong emphasis on the 1 count of a beat, what’s the best advice for someone trying to maximize their groove?

Q:

Where can you get the best sandwich in LA?

A:

its my awkward go to

Q:

Stay in the pocket. Even if you know a lot of shit, dumb down a little bit. Funk will take care of itself. It will lead you to where you want to go. If I'm going to OD, that's what I want to OD on, The Funk. I don't think there's every been a situation with too much funk. It don't mean don't wash your hands now. We're talking about music.

A:

Wallys!

Q:

Who was the hottest Barker Beauty?

A:

How does one measure funk? How do I know if I got the Funk?

Q:

Paul!

Huge huge fan. Thank you for doing this. Saw Phantom Thread last night, listening to the soundtrack as I type this (holy shit Jonny), astounding stuff. I have a few questions:

1) How much of yourself do you see in Reynolds Woodcock? I was troubled by how much I identified with him by the end of the film.

2) Are you currently working on (or are there any plans to begin work on) any new editions with The Criterion Collection? I want to buy them all.

3) We're you at LAX the week of May 22nd of last year wearing a SF Giants cap? If so I'm sorry for staring, I wanted to come say hello but I could've sworn you were a Dodgers/Angels fan.

Thanks again for doing this, and for all of your work.

A:

Amber Lancaster

Q:

You'll know if you got the funk. Your booty will tell you. Your butt will move involuntarily and will feel good

A:

1) I see lots and a not much. I'm not as fussy but I do like to be in charge 2) No Criterion plans. would be nice to do another one... 3) I wouldn't be caught dead in a SF Giants hat. I bleed blue.

Q:

Are the nametags written by hand? It looks like it's been written by the same person for decades.

A:

You are a legend, but did you ever end up getting that pet skunk that you wanted?

Q:

Paul Thomas Anderson, the only God I believe in. Do you have any advice for a near broke 18 year old filmmaker?

A:

there is a person whos job it is to write names on nametags

Q:

No I got a pig instead. His name was Officer Gibbles.

A:

Get a job? Make some money? Get a haircut?

Q:

Does Drew really entertain the crowd during breaks? What's the process after the show, like do winners go backstage to fill out paperwork? Also is the ticket process first come first serve or you sign up in advance? Oh! One more: do you keep the winners license plate?

A:

Do you have a favourite Prince song?

Q:

What's your favorite Altman film???

A:

sorta, mainly talks to contestants...yeah you just go into a room and fill out paperwork...i got the tickets online for free, and YES! its a frame that says "I won this car on The Price is Right"

Q:

Brother Can You Paradigm

A:

Nashville!

Q:

I actually watched your episode the day it aired. You killed that game. I was wondering what you ran back to the crowd for before going to the car.

A:

What is the thing you need most to find the funk?

Q:

Why don't you participate more in the blu-ray releases for your film? Why is Boogie Nights the only movie you ever did a commentary for?

A:

thanks! i ran to Desmond in the audience, the guy i ended up in the Showcase Showdown with, he gave me the answer

Q:

A good funk band

A:

I'm lazy and the sound of my own voice makes me ill....

But I recorded a 5 minute commentary for the Phantom Thread disc!

Q:

So, as a follow up, if you're selling the car, are you gonna put that on your actual car or keep it as a trophy?

A:

Whats the funkiest thing outside of music?

Q:

What is your favorite cinema and why is it the Castro Theater in SF? (Norcal represent!)

A:

keep is as a trophy, for sure...along with the shirt, nametag, posterboard with my name, and my showcase pricetag

Q:

Anchovy Pussy

A:

I"m kinda partial to the Aero. So Cal represent. Against all my better judgement I like the Castro....because I love San Francisco..but hate the Giants. I"m sorry, but that's just the way it is....

Q:

What was the point where you knew you could get a ton of Reddit Karma too?

A:

Seen you live twice sir, spectacular shows, thank you! I'm in the cannabis industry, and I was wondering if we could get some love for legalization from you please? Just a shout-out of support is all I need :)

Q:

right now

A:

PLEASE LEGALIZE THE SHIT. You got my support. In fact, I want to get in the cannabiz too! Brand that shit, give me a deal.

Q:

Did you have to pay sales tax or any fees to take possession of the jewelry prizes like you did with the car or did you just get to walk away from the show with the other stuff in hand?

A:

What'd you do with the money?

Q:

you actually dont get the stuff until you airdate, and you pay for the taxes on stuff (other than cars) at the end of the year of that airdate. I went to the show in December 2017, but it didnt air until Jan 10, 2018.

A:

Spend it on recording, studios, band payments, rent

Q:

Oh wow. So if for some reason they decide not to air that show, do you end up with nothing?

I know it probably doesn't happen much, if ever, but I imagine it's possible..

A:

Have you been to the National Museum of African American History? What did you think?

Q:

i suppose so

A:

Yep. Love it. I was so busy looking at the Mothership first time. I had to go back a few more times.

Q:

Just asking cause I remember seeing a video somewhere about some guy who somehow cheated at showcases and they said Drew did the outro with no 'pep' because he thought it wasn't going to air, but I guess they did air it since they had the footage. Was kind of interesting.

Anyway, congrats on the win. And being cancer-free!

A:

Out of all the venues you've done, which was the wildest in the 70s?

Q:

interesting! hey, thank you so much!

A:

I can't remember the name of it. It was in South Carolina, it was a religious college and was named after one of the Senators. They were wilder than anywhere we have ever been, and it was supposed to be a religious school. They partied harder than anywhere, even the police were partying. And they had in the newspaper that we shouldn't play there because of our reputation. After the show, we thought we shouldn't play there because of their reputation.

Q:

what's your favorite colour?

A:

Are you still living in Detroit? If so, what do you think of the recent turn around and where are your favorite spots?

Q:

blue

A:

No I don't live in Detroit, now I live in Florida. But I still visit all the time. They're really fixing it up now. When they do that to the hood I might move back.

Q:

If I were to hop in your car right now what would be playing through the speakers when I turned it on?

A:

Probably Cardi B

Q:

Thanks for your art, I look forward to the next 10,000 years. Which leads me to my question: do you think you are more 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th dimensional?

A:

Between 7 and 8

Q:

I've always wondered why we don't hear more mainstream hip-hop artists collaborating with you. Are people not asking, or do you just prefer to stick to your own thing?

A:

I'm ready to work with anybody who wants to get down

Q:
  1. Tell me about your experience with Ice Cube recording "Bop Gun (One Nation)". What were your initial thoughts when you were approached? And how great is his writing on that track, right?

  2. Give me some insight on how the drug culture of P-Funk's time played a role in your creative process. Was the collective mythology the product of your minds on acid and coke? Y'all smoked weed, right?

  3. What are your underrated favorites from your decades with P-Funk? "Wizard of Finance" is a masterpiece. And I rarely see people acknowledge how fantastic Clones of Dr. Funkenstein was.

You're a hero, George. You have a young generation of fans.

A:
  1. When he said Bop Gun, I thought he was talking about Bop Gun I didn't realize until I got there that he was playing One Nation which is easier for me to do because I'm not trying to sing behind Glenn on Bop Gun. They slowed it down a bit making it easier for me to sing. It was the bomb. In fact, he did a Remix of Ain't That Funkin Kinda Hard on You. That shows you how much I depend on Ice Cube! Thank you Ice Cube.

  2. I agree with Wizard of Finance. I also like Happiness on Our Side by Bernie Worrell. That whole album in the world is probably my favorite underrated album.

Q:

Do you wipe with your left or right hand?

A:

Let me smell my finger

Q:

Mr. Clinton,

The song "Can You Get To That" off Maggot Brain is far and away my favorite song from any of your groups, so thank you for writing that masterpiece.

My question is: Did you personally approve the sample of that song for the song "Rill Rill" by Sleigh Bells? If not, were you aware that song existed?

A:

We did not know until it appeared on the Super Bowl Commercial. And we still trying to get paid for that.

Q:

Oh my god, man, what you and your band mates have done is some amazing music. Changed my idea of what was possible musically. Thank you so much for all those years of work. How the hell did you come up with such awesome, unique sounds? Who are your influences?

I hope you don't mind the comparison, but learning about you blew my mind in the same way as first learning about Screamin' Jay.

I also heard some chick wouldn't fuck you cuz you were wearing a diaper, is that true?

A:

I like Screamin' Jay Hawkins. I put a spell on you. Don't know how I'd fuck with a diaper on. Take it off. It's weird fucking with a diaper on!

Q:

In what ways has funk surprised you over the years?

A:

It don't surprise me but I see the surprised look on people's face when the see the funk coming back 40 years 50 years 60 years. It doesn't go away. Funk is forever coming.
