Director / CrewI am Lloyd Kaufman, President of Troma Entertainment and creator of The Toxic Avenger and Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead. ASK ME ANYTHING!

Feb 28th 2018 by TromaTeam • 29 Questions • 95 Points

Greetings from Tromaville!

Uncle Lloydie here. I have been making independent films for over 50 years, fighting to create art in the face of the mega-conglomerates who have a chokehold on the content and distribution of the pablum you see in theatres today. I've written six books on filmmaking and I've presented my “Make Your Own Damn Movie” master classes globally from Oxford University to Singapore -- I want nothing more than to help young filmmakers succeed! So, ASK ME ANYTHING.

2018 will see the theatrical release of my latest film, Return to Return to Nuke Em High aka Vol. 2 and this summer I am starting the principal photography of my next film, a Tromatized version of William Shakespeare's "The Tempest", Shakespeare's Shitstorm. Like Tromeo and Juliet, this upcoming movie will have all the car crashes, drugs, sex, and green fluid melt-downs that Shakespeare always wanted but which Queen Elizabeth forbade!!

There's lots to talk about. I can't wait to answer your questions.

Thank you to everyone who participated for all the fanTOXIC questions! That was a lot of fun. xolkxo

Q:

I remember that you were in an Angry Video Game Nerd episode. What was it like working on that with James Rolfe?

A:

He's the best person in the world! He'll be attending the Philadelphia Premiere of "Return to Return to Nuke 'Em High aka Volume 2"! tomorrow at The Trocadero!

Q:

It seems like it's been a really long time since backers got an update on Occupy Cannes. Can you tell us how the film is coming along?

A:

Great question! Well, it took 7 years to finish "Return to Return to Nuke Em High Vol 1&2 so like fine wine, nothing before its time. BUT, I, we, and the whole team thank all you incredible supporters from the bottom of our hearts. And in fact, check the indigogo page for an update... we're posting a sizzle soon!

Q:

I have a question you might find odd!

How does a writer who's confident in his work find the right new filmmaker to pair work together with? What would you say are the most important qualifications of your field, to someone on the other side?

A:

People who've come out of Troma, all the overnight sensations you might have heard of, James Gunn, Eli Roth, Trent Haaga, etc have all spent the better part of a decade writing and sending out script after script after script.. so keep writing and the filmmakers will find you...

Q:

Has there been a shared Tromaverse? I'd like to see the class of Nuke 'em high take on the Toxic Avenger.

A:

Watch Citizen Toxie! Kabukiman kicks Toxie's ass! Then Toxie kicks his own ass! And Terror Firmer, Class of Nuke Em High: Subhumanoid Meltdown You can find it on TromaDirect.com where we are no longer selling assault style weapons.

Q:

What is your opinion of The Asylum?

A:

The asylum in which was committed beat me w a wooden spoon. I am in Sharknadow so I love the movie company

Q:

Will you be collaborating with Achievement Hunter anytime soon? They're looking to set something up!

A:

Keep your eyes peeled ;)...it's in development!

Q:

In regards to rising filmmaking talent. Who do you think will be apart of the next generation of great directors in the horror genre?

A:

Trent Haaga (68 Kill), Brandon Basham (Feartown USA and the Slashening), Eric Manche and Jeff Nitzberg did a great film we are releasing called Slimed, Sam Mason Bell also is getting current great reviews for Industrial Animals. You can subscribe to Troma Now at www.watch.troma.com to see some of these and more "movies of the future"!

Q:

What the hell do I have to do to get in on Shakespeare’s Shitstorm considering I’m completely broke and all the way in Texas?

Also, who do I have to fellate for a blu-ray of Terror Firmer and when should I expect the fellatio to happen?

A:

Blu ray TERROR FIRMER is in the works! Do I blow you!

Q:

Hi Lloyd, I'm an animation producer/director who has a pitch for an adult swim type of animated series for one of your properties. Is that something that would interest you and if so, what would be the best way to present it to you?

A:

we have made several cartoons...all are free on Troma Movies on Youtube...watch them FREE and then contact me on Twitter @lloydkaufman

Q:

Can you describe the best footage you've recorded that isn't movie related?

Also, what was your very first film?

A:

Yes! my famous interpretive dancing when I was the stand-in dance partner for jacques d'amboise rehearising for Balanchine in 1983. The dance ended up in Stuck on You -- available free on Troma's you tube channel.

My first movie: "The girl who returned" -- also available for free but its completely unwatchable. It was put up solely to embarrass me.

Q:

Do you watch any of the Achievement Hunter 'Theater Mode' videos and if so, is there a particular one you found good?

A:

The Theater Modes are always brilliant, and the Tromeo and Juliet one is my favorite, for I was cracking the most jokes with some cracked heads on screen

Terror Firmer is is suddenly flying off the shelves and in many Film Festivals etc only 20 years too late!

A:

can't pay the airfare...Telluride Tell ur ride I tip well

Q:

Hey Uncle Lloydie! What 3 personal qualities, for either cast or crew, would you say are the most appreciated when on set in Tromaville? xCB

A:

That's a good question. If you read my books you'll see that sometimes enthusiasm and loyalty to the project outweigh talent...at times. Remember to make a Troma movie you have to sleep on the floor and defecate in a brown paper bag...so Robert DeNiro isn't exactly begging to be on our set. He prefers to defecate in plastic bags.

Q:

Noted. I've emailed you my reel and preferred paper bag size over to Hayden _^

A:

Taiwan was and is GREAT. The only democracy that is Chinese

Q:

Hey Mr Kaufman! I hope all is cool! What question have you not been asked or rarely been asked? What would be your answer to that question be? Very much obliged! Chris

A:

"Is Return to Return to Nuke 'Em High Vol 2 will be playing in Philadelphia and Los Angeles?" And my answer would be Tomorrow at the Trocadero Theater starting at 8pm. Also the Ahrya Fine Arts Theater in Beverley Hills on March 8th! From the 9th-15th we will be showing the film at the NOHO 7 Theater in North Hollywood
